Hello and welcome to my e-portfolio. My name is Sahib and I am a student at Southridge School. This portfolio is a collection of chosen work completed throughout the first and second terms of Grade 6. It is organized by subject

My favourite item in the portfolio is Music. It is my favourite item because I earned a decent mark on it, which was consistent with my grade at that point. It also shows some of the mistakes, wich I tried to learn from. I liked doing this portfolio for many reasons. It makes you feel good and it helps tell you were you need to improve. It also makes you aware of what you are doing and it is a good way to motivate yourself towards good results and improving your skills. In the future I will continue to work hard in my subjects and succeed. I will also make sure that I will not underestimate the value of any test or assignment I do. I hope you share the same pride in seeing all of my good work as much as I do.

I think I am reflective because I always think back at what I have done and what I did. I always think on what I have done, what is right, and what is wrong. I always think on what I have said and what I should have said or done. I always used to speak without thinking, but now I always think before I say something now.

I do well in LA and Music. I am very successful in LA because I did very well in my commonwealth essay and my AR. I always get higher than my AR goal and my Average. I am always prepared for English. I have all my books and equipment with me. I always have my homework on time. I am always on time. One extra curriculum I do is Music. I do music in school and out of school. I am always doing well and on time. I am always prepared and ready. I think I can develop in many different subjects. I can develop in grammar, concepts, and many other things. I will do this by practicing things that are similar to these concepts that I have done in the past. For music I will try to work a little bit harder to get better marks. I will do the following steps to get better marks and do better; step one: practice the concept, step two: make a quiz, and step three: get your parents to test you. I will always ask for help in class if needed. I will change my writing style to find the one that works for me best. I will work really hard to reach my goal.

Multiple Intelligence

I think the word multiple intelligences means what category of learning you best fit in. It helps you understand who you are. Multiple intelligences tells you if you are mathematical, scientific, musical, and it tells you many more other things. I think that the quiz results were kind of accurate, when I did the Multiple Intelligence quiz I had about the same average for a lot of things. But the biggest average ended up 67% for 2 categories. Those category’s where Linquistic and Visual Spatial. I think I can be a lot be in a lot of different categories.

French

For math I choose my third term test. My over all mark

was 29 out of 34.There are 4 sections. They are all

based on the following things: dou you know your facts

, familiar problems, more problem solving, and unfamiliar

sitiuations.The first section was out of 10, the second

out of 11, the third out of 7, and the fourth out of 6. I

got 10 out of 10 in the first section, 11 out of 11 on the

second section, 5 out of 7 on the third section; and 3

out of 6 in the fourth section. The reason why i choose

this peice is because I put in a lot of effort getting good

marks on this test and also because it teaches me that

i need to work on problem solving a bit more. I learned

that problem solving is as important as basic facts. I think

I am a thinker because you have to think a lot to get

anwers to a math question.The biggest challenge was

thinking of how to get a answer for a question and also

how to show your work for that question. Next time I

will practise problem solving a bit more.

Technology

For my English entry I choose my summer reading project. The book I choose is called War Nurse. It is about a young woman who joins Red Cross hospital. I learned how hard it was for young woman like kitty to go and to clean the blood and wounds of people who got injured in the war. I learned that if I am a doctor when I grew up seeing blood and wounds might be difficult and it might be a challenge but I will have to learn to face that challenge and get used to it. I think that reading this book has made me open minded because even if you don’t like a person you should still help them if they need help; no matter who they are or what they do you should still help them. The biggest challenge doing this project was writing a good summary because there is a lot to this book to learn about. Next time I will right a little bit more and add some more grammar.

For my French entry I chose my oral test. The questions are on an exchange girl called Natalie who went to Quebec. I did very well on the test. There were ten questions and each question was worth two marks. Over all I got nineteen and a half out of twenty. There was a half mark of because I forgot a word in the fifth question. The word was est. I chose this entry because it taught me that you need to be careful every little word counts. This was a partner activity. I learned that you don’t always do a test on paper you could do tests with friends even. I like working with a partner because when you work with a teacher sometimes you can get nervous. I kind of like the clock partner because sometimes when you chose not everybody has room for who they always want. My first language is Punjabi, my second language is English, and my third language is French. It is useful having a second language because you can go to different countries and communicate with people. I find putting sentences together challenging because you have to use different verbs and pronouns. To improve I will study differently and study a bit more.

Music

For my humanities item I choose my critical evaluation of a Website Site Middle School Level. I got an overall mark of nine out of ten. I choose this because it shows that you should always edit your work because otherwise you can get many mistakes. I learned about internet literacy like how to trust a website, how to tell if a website is updated, and many other things. In this entry I think I was a thinker because we had to think a lot about all the information we got, and the pictures. The biggest challenge was finding out if it was bias or not. If I could do this project again I would look over all my work and look over all my work for grammar corrections.

Art

For Technology I chose my chair project. I choose it because I think I did well but I could do better by colouring or painting it. I could also make the chair a tinny bit bigger. I learned that you don’t have to study a computer to do technology projects; you can do your projects my hand. I learned that I like doing hand projects better than computer projects because for me some things on a computer can be difficult but then a person can learn new things; because everybody should be open-minded. I think doing this project made me a thinker because there was a lot of thinking to do to plan the whole chair and everything in it. If I could do this project again I would glue some fabrics and makes separate controls and make things more obvious.

Phisical Education

For music I choose my stomp project. The stomp project is a rhythm project where you have to create music with rhythm you have to have an introduction, a groove, solo breaks, open section, call and response, and an ending. We had to tap the rhythms to a theme that we chose. My groups theme was sports. The people in my group were Amanda, Dustin, Dharam, and Jack. We each had an order to do each rhythm in. Our over all mark was 43 out of 50. This shows me as a musician that we could have made the rhythms a bit harder. As a learner this shows me that we could have put a bit more effort into it. I feel that music brings a lot of joy to the worlds. This project was a good experience. I think music is a lot of fun and I would do this project again.

Science

For Art I choose my clay project. First we made an animal page. The animal we chose kind o has to be an animal like us. I chose a lioness. I chose a lioness because they are proud, powerful, protective, strong, and brave. The animal we choose is the animal that we are going to somehow attach to our clay box. The animal is going to be made out of clay. I decided to make a slab box. The slab box is one of the hardest boxes to make. You have to make a bunch of measurements and you have to make them a bit bigger because your clay shrinks in the kiln. You have to start with several Geometric Shapes (Slabs). Then you roll out smooth slabs clay then cut out measured squares and rectangles as needed for your shape of box. Then you have to score slip and seal (you might need to snake) to attach the slabs together. Then use spaghetti snakes to strengthen your seams.I think that this project is really fun and it helps tell a person who they are. It helps a person build on their personality. The challenging part about the project is the part of putting the box together. The challenging part about the animal is all the shaping and details. It is sometimes hard to meet criteria especially when you are having trouble with something. I am most proud of the animal and how it represents who I am and also all the painting I am going to do. I learned that thinking that something is easy doesn’t mean it is easy, it can be hard. If I ever do this project again I would make the slab box bigger or even make a paint pot.

Service

For my P.E. reflection I chose the volley ball unit. I chose it because I learned a lot of volley this year. I perfected setting, bumping, and serving. I chose this unit because I started to like volley ball much more than I did before and I learned a lot more than I did. I learned that if I really try I can start to like something that I never did like or try to like. I think in this unit I was Open-minded because I tried out a sport that I never liked before and I tried to like it; and in the end I did like the sport. If I could try this unit again I would buy a volley ball or borrow one from a friend and I would practise volley ball at home. I think that this was a great unit and I would love to do it again if I could.

For science I choose my essay on the effect on microbes. For this essay we had to right three paragraphs on microbes. Microbes are protists, Bacteria, and Viruses. The first paragraph was on how are microbes harmful. The second paragraph was on how are microbes beneficial and the third paragraph was on how is science and technology is applied to dealing with microbes (including any limitations, what science can’t do. I only got to do two of the paragraphs because we had a time limit. Even if you don’t do three paragraphs doesn’t mean you get a bad mark. The mark was based on criteria A and criteria B. They were both out of six. I got a five for Criteria A and Criteria B. I am still proud even if I didn’t do three paragraphs because I did the best I could. I learned all about Protists, Viruses, and Bacteria. If I could do this essay again I would check all over my work again, for spelling errors, and I would try my best to start and finish my third paragraph.

1. What does “service” mean to you?

To me service means helpfulness, and showing that you care. When someone helps another person, not because they have to but because they want to. People do service with compassing, kindness, helpfulness, and respect. Service is done with a good heart.
