The UN entered the war on July 7, 1950. The United States pushed for the UN to act immediately. 21 members of the UN committed themselves to helping South Korea.

The Battle of Inchon started in September of 1950. The North Koreans believed that the US, UN, and ROK forces were trapped. It was an amphibious battle.

China Enters the War
China entered the Korean War in October of 1950. China entered the war to help communist North Korea. The Chinese also wanted North Korea as a communist buffer.

President Truman Fires MacArthur
MacArthur was put in charge of the American-Led UN troops. The president was worried that the invasion would look like a hostile act and the general told him that that had a very slim chance of happening. Then in December of 1950 a massive Chinese troop crossed into North Korea and flung themselves against the American lines.

Armistice Agreement to end the War
The armistice was signed on July 27, 1953. It was designed to "ensure a complete cessation of hostilities and of all acts of armed force in Korea until a final peaceful settlement is achieved." China normalized relations and signed a peace treaty with South Korea in 1992.
