What was the most important factor to the abolition of slavery

Wars

The main reason slavery was abolished was because of different wars that were held. Examples of this were the American Civil war and the French revolution. The French revolution was led by Napoleon who wanted to conquer the Caribbean and use slave workers in his new empire. But the public wanted it abolished so in 1817 but slave trafficking still went on until 1848. The civil war was all about slavery and anti slavery when the united states won who were the abolitionist side won slavery was officially abolished in 1865

Lack of profitability

The wars that were happening in the time of slavery led to the profitability of slavery going down. This was because with the french revolution costing the french 1.482 billion euros or 1.3 billion Livres (the currency at the time) and the civil war costing the americans 4.576 billion euros meant that they didn't have the financial stability to support the slavery efforts. The wars also affected the lack of profitability of the slave trade because the boats that were being used got more expensive as they were needed in the civil wars and were mainly used to transport weapons

Lack of profitability

Slave rebellions

Slave rebellions

The increase of wars in the period of slavery affected the slave rebellions because some of the slaves noticed that the countries that were holding them were in need of money and because of the war their grip on them was less tight so they would rebel. A famous rebellion was the rebel in saint Dominique (modern day Haiti) between 1791 and 1804. This rebellion started because the economics of the country was going down and the living conditions were worse because of the war.

Change in public opinion

Change of public opinion

The change in public opinion was a key factor to the abolition of slavery. This was because when people noticed what was happening they decided that slavery was bad and together they forced the downfall of profitability with the sugar boycott of 1791 and the change in parliament because parliamentarians wanted to stay on the good side of the public so they got re voted in.

Anti slavery society's

The change of public opinion and the increase in numbers of slave rebellions affected the awareness and the members of the anti slavery society's. This is because when here were rebellions it would go to the news and then when people would read the news they would notice that the conditions of slavery were bad. Then people would join or show other people what was happening. The biggest society was the american anti slavery society what was founded in 1833.
