Roughly 170 bird species have been recorded. Of these, the painted stork, Asian openbill stork, common spoonbill, woolly-necked stork, black-headed ibis, lesser whistling duck, Indian shag, stork-billed kingfisher, egret, cormorant, Oriental darter, spot-billed pelican and heron breed at Ranganathittu regularly.

Ranganathittu Sanctuary
The Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is home to not just the tiger and elephant, but to the panther, bison, sloth bear, wild dog, flying squirrel (including the giant Indian squirrel) and wild boar. It also has over 120 species of flora, such as teak, rose-wood, mathi, honne, nandi, tadasalu and kindal.

Climatic conditions and location of the sanctuary
It is located in Chikkamagaluru district, 23 km south of Bhadravathi city and 38 km northwest of Chikkamagaluru city in Karnataka state, India. the climatic conditions here do not pose great risks or challenges to the visitors. The temperature is relatively moderate and varies from 22 to 34 degree Celsius. The weather is agreeable all year, thanks to the proximity of Lake Vembanad and the constant flow of cool wind from the lake to the land.
