- Vancomycin has a very narrow spectrum of activity, which is based on inhibition of cell wall synthesis.
Narrowly targets Staphylococcus aureus infections that are resistant to other antibiotics.
Used as a bactericidal antibiotic that weakens the cell wall and causes the cell to undergo lysis.
-Vancomycin is a strong antibiotic used to treat strong infections suh as MRSA and C. Diff (colitis).
Vancomycin was named after the word vanquish.
Red man syndrome is a side effect that occurs when vancomycin is infused too quickly; results in a red rash on the face, chest and/or extremities.
