Bram (short for Abraham) Stoker was born in Ireland in 1947. He was a sickly child, bedridden for much of his boyhood until about the age of seven. As a youth, Stoker was intrigued by the stories told him by his mother, Charlotte. Especially influential to the mind of young Stoker were the stories she related about the cholera epidemic of 1832 which claimed thousands of lives. These cruel and vivid tales began to shape the young Stoker's imagination.
Stoker published "Dracula" in 1897. Although Vampire myths have existed throughout the ages, "Dracula" cemented the idea of the modern Vampire, and the character was re-visited again and again.
He died on April 20, 1912, but his most famous work has risen again and again.
This novel has an unusual format - it is written as a series of diary entries, following the horrific predations of this ancient Vampire and the efforts of a group of hunters to destroy him.
