Tokyo is the capital. It originally was a small fishing city. Before it was called Edo, but changed once the emperor moved from Kyoto. It's new name meaning eastern capital. Due to Edo growing as a big city. Development of the city began in the Tokugawa Period (1603- 1867). In the 17 century is was Japan's largest city. In the 19th century it's population past one million people. Currently has over 9.49 million people. The climate in the summer is hot and humid. The beginning of summer, and of autumn is it's rainy seasons. Normally tow or three hurricanes may occur from September to October.

Yokohama south of Tokyo has a population of 3.75 million people. Located in the Kanagawa-Ken Prefecture. It's Japan's first port under the Harris treaty in 1958. Originated as a small fishing village. One of the largest ports. Imports raw material.
Osaka has a population of 2.71 million people in the third largest city. The second largest urban and industrial. It's financial centrals is one of the largest in Japan. It's neighboring city is Kobe.
Capital of Aichi Prefecture. Located by Ise Bay. It's history date back to 1610. Marking the end of the shogunal Government. When it's great castle was knocked down by the Tokugawa Shogunate. Which is the emperors military. It's city
relies on hydro-electricity, and it grew to be one of Japan's leading industrial cities. It has manufactures like Toyota. The population of the city is 2.29 million people. Making it the 4th largest city in Japan.
The smallest out of the four islands
-Area of the island is 7,063 sq miles
-The majority of it's landscape has mountains.
-Agriculture is the majority of North of the island.
-The majority of it's population are in Urban areas.
-With 4 million people.
-Cities are along the coast.
- It's main cities are Kochi, Tokushima, Matsuyama, and Takamatsu.
-Matsuyama is it's capital.
-Divided into four prefuctures. Kagawa, Kochi, Ehime and Tokushima
-It's connect to the main Island (Honshu) by three multiple water bridges. These where all constructed in the early 20th century.
-Photo is of the Ritsurin Garden which is from the Edo Period, and it's one of the most famous historical gardens.
-Onaruto Bridge in the east. (The Awaji Island, and Akashi straight Bridge). Are in that direction

Southern most and third largest of all other four islands.

active volcanic crater, and it's Japans

west to east. 25 km North to South

-It's national parks are Aso-Kuju,
Kirishima-Yaku, and Unzen Anakusua-Has seven prefectures
-North has it's industries. That work with iron, steel, and chemicals.
-The city Kita-Kyushu is the commercial center. For the two other cities
Fukuoka, and Nagasaki.
-It's capital is Fukuoka.
-The crops they grow on the island are rice, tea, sweet potatoes, tobacco, and citrus fruit.
-In the Saga-Ken Prefecture, it's known for its Porcelain and pottery.

It has the most production in agriculture,
and in fisheries. A lot of national parks that attract tourism.

Aomori grows the majority of the apples in Japan.
Has a lot of electrical machinery companies. Food industries sectors. It has Asia, and North America for it's top trading partners. As it also has many other partners.
Hirosoki Castle
This region has the capital city Tokyo. Has a population of 4 million people. It's the politcal and economic central of Japan. Most amount of lowland in the country. It relies on hydroelectricity. From the Tone River System. Which drains water. With the Naka and Sagami rivers. The agriculture in this area has the crops with less irrigation. This area has Hills, and many plateus.
It accounts for 20% of national shipments, of good s produced in Japan. Region has Mt.Fuji, and the Japanese Alps. It's divided in three smaller regions. Horiku which is referred as Ura Nihon "Back Japan". It's snowy winters. Has fertilizer companies, and many different industrial developments. Tosan which had silk warm raising.
Its landscape having high mountains, and agriculture. Growing Fruit, Mulbery trees, and rice. It's cities are powered by hydro- electricity. Tokai also Omote Nihon ("Front Japan") has windy, and not as cold winters like Horiku. In the early 20th century industrialization has grown, and urbanization. Under the influence of the city Osaka.

It's the region with many of Japan's historical cities in the west. Until the 20th century it was the most econimacally, and indsusrial part of Japan. Has the cities, Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe. Kobe is the capital of the Hyogo prefecture. Both cities, Kobe, and Osaka are apart of the Hanshin Industrial Region. It's one of the largest in Japan. The GDP of this area is 341 billion. It's the greatest production of lithium-ion batteries. Also many pharmaceutical companies. Earthquakes are not as common.
It's airports and seaports are used for trading. It contributes to the devolpment of electronics and biotechnology. It contributes to 5.5% of Japans total GDP. As in 2013. Tottori has sand dunes.

Okinwa Pefecture is made up of the southwester 2/3rds of the ryuku islands. Also Okinawa Island having an area of 463 sq miles. Naha is the islands prectural capital. Okinwa was once a semi-independent kingdom. That had the influence of China, and Japan. Its economy is from tuna fishing, tourism, cattle, and agriculture. The island grows rice, soybeans and sweet potatoes. Lacquerware is manufactured. Lacquerware is a coating that goes over pots, and is commonly known as Fine China. Offshore, they would collect petroleum. It has a population of 1.457 million people.
Kyuushu is the same, as the island. Information is on slide 19.

-It's agriculture land is effected by its land terrain. Due to its mountains.
-Its the second largest importer for food. Costing over 34.6 Billion dollars.
-There are more elderly people than younger people. As Japan's Birth rate has decreased over the years. Raising concerns for Japan's workforce, and labor.
-Due to Covid 19 its economy has shrunk 4.8%
Main exports are predicated to be worth 728 billion. From auto vehicles, steel, plastic materials. Japan is the third largest auto mobile manufacture companies in the world. It leads the main exports in the country.

The Diet is Japan's Parliament. It has the most power, and creates laws.

248 House of Councilors (Higher). Pass budget plans. International affairs, adjusting/ changing the constitution. Which has had no current changes.Each term is 6 years to be re-elected. Normally there is a re-election every three years for half of the councilors.
465 House of Representatives (Lower). Their term office is every four years. They have the same rights as the House of Councilors. Except their votes can over rule the House of Councilors.
Includes the Prime Minister, who is elected by the Diet members. Their role is to report to the diet on foreign relations, international affairs. Submit bills to the diet. An overview of the government's different administrative branches.

The current Prime Minister is Suga Yoshihide. Who became Prime Minister in 2020.
The Supreme Court and Lower Court. Has Chief Justice. With 14 other justices. All where appointed by the cabinet. The majority of cases are handled by district courts. Summary Courts who deal with minor problems. An example is traffic violations.

Kimono
Tempura
It was the word for clothing. It was created during the Heian Period (794-1192). It was a daily piece worn that was suitable for all weather. The Kamakura Period (1192- 1338) and Muromachi period (1338- 1573) Kimono's where more colorful, and certain colors made it distinctive for warriors. The Edo period (1603-1868) Kimonos where specifically designed for each group of lords. This became their uniform. The making of Samuari clothes was important during this time. The Meiji Period (1868-1912) Kimono's became less popular as Japan reopened it's border, and faced western influence. At the time Government officials, and military officers where required to where western clothing. This rule is no longer in place. The Kimono is worn to special events, like graduations, national holidays, and Weddings.
