When the word Allegory comes from ?
The word is derived from two greek words:
- "Allos" mean other
- "Agoria" means speaking
This give a word allegoria . * Then it come to Latin and From Latin it came to old French and from old French it came to late middle English and become allegory in 1382.
♪ The function of allegory in literature is to convey a complex idea through an in-depth metaphorical narrative.
♪ Famous allegories include Dante's Divine Comedy, George Orwell's Animal Farm, and John Bunyan's The Pilgrim’s Progress . ♪All of these works use allegorical techniques to convey different messages to the ones literally written on the page.
* An allegory can be thought of as an extended metaphor. * Literary techniques are often used by fiction or poetry writers in order to convey an idea in a more enjoyable or easily comprehensible fashion.
*It is a story or painting that on the surface, tells one tale but has hidden political meaning underneath.
*It can be extended to fiction, drama, paintings, music and films.
It refers to allegorical interpretations of the Bible which were popular in the middle ages.
