Tour Of The Our Solar System

Harsimrat Kaur :o)

The Sun

Sun

At the center of our solar system, the sun is a 4.5 billion year - old star.

It is made up of hydrogen and helium and is very, very hot. It is about 150 million kilometers away from earth.

Did You Know?

Fun Fact !

The sun is the largest object in our solar system! It would take 1.3 million Earths to fill in the volume of the sun.

Did you Know?

The sun provides energy and nourishment that we humans need to survive.

Fun Fact!

Closest to the sun, Mercury is the smallest planet in our solar system. It is slightly larger than the moon but not the hottest planet.

Mercury has the most unlikely orbit because it revolves around the sun in an egg like way.

Mercury

Fun Fact!

Did you Know?

Mercury travels around the planet the fastest, it completes it's orbit in just 88 days!

The planet travels at 42 km/second

Did You Know?

YOU can see Mercury from earth between October 3 - 17 just before sunrise!

Check your local time zones to find when you can see this planet!

Fun Fact!

Second Planet to the Sun, Venus was among the first five planets discovered in the ancient times.

Venus

Did You Know?

Venus is hotter than Mercury despite being farther from the sun! This is because of the high concentration of Carbon dioxide in Venus' atmosphere.

Fun Fact!

Did You Know?

Fun Fact!

Venus is mamed after the Roman Beauty goddess because of it's bright shine in the night sky.

BONUS!

Venus is the second brightest object in our night sky, after the moon.

Our homeland Earth, is the only known inhabitated planet. It is also the only planet with liquid water present.

Earth is the third planet from the sun and the fifth largest item in our solar system.

Earth

Did You Know?

Earth is the only planet that was not named after Roman or Greek gods but instead from the German word which means "the ground".

Fun Fact!

Did You Know?

Our atmosphere protects us from incoming dangers, most of the meteorites break up in our atmosphere before they can hit lands.

Fun Fact!

Mars

Mars is one the most explored planets in our solar system, it is the fourth planet from the sun and the farthest terrestrial planet from the sun.

Did You Know?

At this moment NASA has two rovers (Curiosity and Perseverence), one lander (InSight), and one helicopter (Ingenuity) exploring Mars.

Fun Fact!

Did You Know?

One day on Mars takes a little bit more than 24 hours. One orbit around the sun takes Mars 687 earth days.

Fun Fact!

The largest planet in our solar system (larger than all the planets combined) is the fifth planet from the sun, Jupiter!

Jupiter is the closest gas giant to the sun.

Jupiter

Did You Know?

Jupiter has more than 75 moons but scientists estimate there might be more! These Include; Europa, Io, Ganymede, Callisto, etc.

Fun Fact!

Did You Know?

All four Gas giants in our solar system have rings, including Jupiter. Though, Jupiter's rings are quite faint.

Fun Fact!

Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun and the second biggest planet in our solar system.

Even though all gas giants have rings, Saturn has the most vibrant and compliacted rings.

Saturn

Did You Know?

Like Jupiter, Saturn's atmosphere is made up of hydrogen and helium.

Fun Fact!

Did You Know?

Saturn has seven rings (like Ariana Grande) as well as many gaps and partionings between them.

Fun Fact!

Uranus is the seventh planet in our solar system and the third largest.

It was the first planet found with a telescope by astronomer William Herchel in 1781.

Uranus

Did You Know?

Fun Fact!

Uranus is named after the Greek god of the sky!

When the planet was first discovered, Herschel wanted to name it after the then monarch "the Georgium Sidus".

Did You Know?

One Uranian day is about 17 hours, while one Uranian year is 84 earth years.

Fun Fact!

Surrounded by strong winds, ice cold, Neptune is the eight and farthest planet from the sun.

NASA's Voyager 2 is the only spacrcraft to have been to Neptune up close, when it flew past the planet in 1989.

Neptune

Did You Know?

Neptune has 14 moons all of which are names after Greek sea gods and nymphs.

Fun Fact!

Did You Know?

Neptune's unbelievebly blue colour is possible because of the absorption of red and infared light by it's atmosphere which is made up of methane.

Fun Fact!

After the discovery of the Kuiper Belt in 2006, our former 9th planet Pluto became a dwarf planet.

Pluto is smaller than Earth's moon and has blur skies, spinning moons, mountains, and red snow!

Pluto

Did You Know?

Because of Pluto's egg like orbit, it is sometimes closer to the sun than Neptune is.

Fun Fact!

Did You Know?

Pluto has 5 moons. Charon - the biggest moon - is so big that Pluto and Charon Orbit around each other like a twin planet.
