and assessing high-quality teaching

-can be applied to all levels of schooling, different kinds of students, and all subject areas.

- What Are Your Concerns Right Now?--The personal side of teaching
- Understanding Your Concerns--Teachers who understand their own concerns are better able to understand the concerns of their students and colleagues & do many things on their own to address them.
Major Areas of Teacher Concern--All will typically fall into one of four areas with regard to their concerns: Unrelated, Self, Task, and Impact
Task: getting all the materials organized
Impact: further improve your effectiveness
- working with one or more fellow teachers so together you can have a greater impact on student learning
- being comfortable and confident with what they are doing
Unrelated: family concerns or getting along with a roommate
Self: having enough information and wanting to know more

- Now is the time to begin anticipating and preparing what you will need to have accomplished and be able to demonstrate so that you are the one who will be hired for the teaching position you would most like to have.
- Requirements for Obtaining a Teacher License--
- Completion of teacher preparation program

- major or advanced studies in field you will teach

- Specialty Specific Statewide Teacher Shortages--If you become qualified in one of these specialties, obtaining a position will be easier. If you plan to teach in a low-need specialty, you should think now about what additional qualifications you can represent.
- Where to Look for Teaching Positions--Check school websites, Education Week, state education websites, Department of Defense schools, Overseas schools, Private Schools, and Teaching English Abroad.
- Ideas for Your Professional Resumé--One or two pages, list your qualifications and related experiences, past work experience, and references.
- Teacher Dispositions Are Very Important--The attitudes, beliefs, and values that teachers hold about students; the subjects they teach; their colleagues, parents, and the school are critical.
- Electronic Job Application--Many districts require that you submit your application for employment online.
What Are Career Path Possibilities for Teachers?

- Graduate Study--Pursuing one or more graduate degrees is a regular way that teachers keep learning and become qualified to advance in their careers.
- Becoming a School Administrator--The most obvious career progression is to “move up” the administration ladder.
- School and District Office Staff Roles--Personnel in staff positions do not have line authority over others, instead they work with others in various ways.
