Clayton valli is an american poet who went to the austine school of the deaf vermont. He was born on may 25, 1951 in newbury, massachusetts. Clayton also attended the national institute for the deaf and got a A.A.S. (Associate of Applied Science)
Yellow flowers, in a big field, waving in the wind, angry sees the flowers and says “i hate dandelions”, he plucks and mows and cuts the lawn, the field is empty and then the flowers start growing again in the same spot they were cut. They are waving in the wind again and the man says “there” and he pulls the dandelion and it's seeds spread everywhere
I think the meaning of the text is a representation of deaf struggles or oppressed peoples struggles by the majority/societal norms. We see the big man pluck and chop mow and try his hardest to eradicate the flowers even though they arent as threat and he just wants them gone. But the dandelions are resilient and strong and they refuse to go down and regrow once more.
I think it caused clayton valli to make his poems more personal and have themes relating to his struggles rather than themes that didnt concern him or his life/struggles
I feel like ive learned more about human struggles and how a persons upbringing and circumstances will affect them or how these circumstances can be embraced in order to live life the best way you can. It's clear clayton valli projected his own experiences and emotions into the poems and the impact of that shows and i feel admiration for the fact he used his past to make a better future
