Life

Lou Majaw

Lou Majaw was born in Mawlai, Shillong on the 14th of April 1947. His first encounter with the guitar was in 1955 at The Sacred Hearts Boy's Boarding School. Moving on to DonBosco Technical School in 1959 to learn tailoring he spent the next three years till 1962 as part of the school band playing guitar and side drum, genis, saxophone and trumpet in the School Orchestra. In 1965 he found himself with an opportunity to travel and headed to Calcutta. he was soon playing in Park Street,then the Mecca for musicians in India. The Bands that he played with and sang for were Little Richard and the Small Frys and Oracle Bones. He began writing songs initially with the birth of "rock". Bob Dylan was a great source of inspiration for him.

Neil Nongkynrih

Neil Nongynkrih was born on 9 July 1970 to AH Scott Lyngdoh, a former state minister of Meghalaya. He was introduced to Mozart and Beethoven by his grand-aunt and he learnt most of his initial lessons from his sister Pauline Warjri, a jazz musician. In 1988 he left for England to study music, against the wishes of his father. He returned to Shillong after thirteen years in Europe. Now he is an award winning concert pianist, founder and mentor. He had studied music at Trinity College in London, and had also tutored Grammy winner Philip Selway of the British rock group Radiohead. Neil decided to become a music teacher and converted his residence in Pokseh into a home music school. He then searched out talented children from villages or from modest backgrounds and trained them in music. This led to the formation of Shillong Chamber Choir (in 2001), which won the reality show India’s Got Talent in 2010.

Life

Taba Chake

Taba Chake was born on 24 December 1993. He is a finger-style guitar player, singer-songwriter, performer from a small town called Doimukh in Arunachal Pradesh. Having grown up in a Nyishi tribal family, his music is inspired by tribal folklore, birds and nature. He started practicing music at the age of six and started writing songs at the age of 11. He left Arunchal Pradesh to study music in Bangalore in around 2010. He experimented with many genres of music as he matured, including playing guitar and composing music for a metal band, before joining a Hindi band, which he performed in from 2009 to 2011. After its breakup, he started performing solo.

Takar Nabam

Takar Nabam was born in Doimukh, Arunachal pradesh. In 2002, Takar was gifted his first guitar on the condition that he could not let his academics take a back seat, a concern that holds true even today, for several Indian families. After moving to New Delhi in 1998, he spent the next two decades there, 2004-2010. Besides being an active member of his School's and College's Western Music Society, he was also an active part of the Rock Music Scene in New Delhi, 2012-2015. Between playing sessions for Several Artists to teaching Music at Several Schools in Delhi, he found his wish of songwriting. His music has taken him throughout Asia to perform, including major festivals in India such as NH7 Weekender, Ziro Festival of Music.

His second album, This Home That Home, came out in March 2018. The album received a 3 star rating by Rolling Stone India.
