Scene 1

Willy Wonka, the children, and the parents are sitting in the boat. Wonka makes a snide remark about the children, which causes him to have a flashback.

The camera pans to Willy Wonka's face, creating a close-up shot. A voice starts talking, giving a "nauseous" effect. This commences the fade into the next scene.

Sound:

Sound: Scene two is greeted by "twinkly" music that sounds calming yet mysterious.

Scene 2

Children are running around the gloomy streets excitedly. The dark atmosphere is made brighter by the small patches of orange light. The light and the dark symbolizes good and bad, which foreshadows the Willie Wonka probably didn't have a pleasant childhood.

Scene 4

Scene Three

This shot is a long shot. Four children dressed up for Halloween plod up some concrete stairs to an imposing-looking house, ready to trick or treat. The colour theme of black and orange is repeated.

Sound:

The four children are giggling loudly, their footsteps sounding against the stairs. They knock on the door, and a kind lady appears, chuckling. The knock is most likely enhanced diegetic, whilst the rest of the noise is diegetic.

Sound

Scene 4

A medium shot of the kind lady standing in the doorway of her house is displayed. She is waring pale orange clothes, and she's clutching a bowl of sweets to her chest. You can see a chandelier in the background, which indicates that she's wealthy.

Sound:

The four children grin up at her and she laughs kindly.

Scene 5

This shot is a medium shot of four beaming children, all wearing Halloween costumes. There is a witch, a pirate, an angel, and a ghost, whom we later find out of be Willie Wonka. It is a slight high angle shot, to show the children from the kind lady's perspective.

Sound:

Giggling, the children call "Trick or treat!"

The kind lady then names them all, but she hesitates when faced with Willie, who is still covered in the ghost costume.

Sound

Scene 6

Scene 6 is a close-up of Willie Wonka. He pulls his ghost costume off his head, revealing his face. He is wearing old fashioned, cruel braces that force his face into a painful-looking smile.

Scene 6

Scene 6 sound:

The woman laughs kindly, saying "Little Willie Wonka."

Scene 7

Scene 7

This next shot is medium-wide. You can see a dark, gloomy alleyway that, unlike the rest of the street, seems to radiate unfriendliness. There are no Halloween decorations, and the only source of light is a small window that seems to glow orange. Willie Wonka walks into the shot, seeming very small compared to the street.

Scene 7 Sound:

The narrator is talking about Willie's father. His voice sounds mysterious, making us want to know more.

Sound

Scene 8

The camera zooms into a plaque, after Willie has walked down a set of steps and into a door. The plaque reads "Wilbur Wonka, Dental Practitioner."

Scene 8

Scene 8 Sounds:

When Willie opens it, the door creaks loudly, giving it a spooky effect. There is also mysterious music in the background, which aids this.

Scene 9 is a close-up shot of Wilbur Wonka. One side of his face is illuminated, but the other side is left in dark. A fire is crackling in the background.

Sound

Scene 9

Scene 9 Sound:

The music from the previous shot continues, although quieter. Wilbur speaks to Willie, asking what the "damage" was.

Scene 10

Scene 10

Shot 10 is a wide shot of the room. The room has a gloomy air about it, but the fire and a few lamps increase the brightness. The father and son are sitting in chairs, facing each other. Willie's chair is much too big, making him seem weak.

Scene 10 Sound:

There is a voiced pause, making the crackling fire seem louder.

Sound

Scenes 11 - 12

Scene 11

Wilbur Wonka takes Willie's pillowcase full of sweets and tips them into a bowl.

Scene 11

Scene 11 Sound:

As well as the crackling of the fire in the background, you can hear the sweets fall into the hard metal bowl.

Sound

Scene 12

Scene 12

Willie Wonka looks at his father, showing no expression on his face. His seat makes him look very small and weak, and the slight low angle shot aids this. The black and yellow color theme in the background gives the house a contrasting look.

Scene 12 Sound:

The sweets are still pattering into the bowl, although you cannot see it happen. The fact you can still hear it indicates that there was probably a lot of sweets.

Sound

Scenes 13 - 14

Scene 13

Wilbur's hand is in the bowl, picking out sweets and holding them up for Willie to see.

Scene 13

Scene 13 Sound:

You can hear rustling as the sweets clink against the bowl. Wilbur pauses occasionally to make a snide comment on the sweet he is holding.

Sound

Scene 14

This is a close-up shot of Wilbur. He is holding a golden sweet up to his face. The shiny wrapper catches the light.

Scene 14

Scene 14 Sound

He talks, telling Willie that caramel will get stuck in his braces. Meanwhile,we can hear the fire still blazing.

Sound

Scene 15

Scene 15

Scene 15

This shot is a long shot. Wilbur stands, holding the bowl, ready to throw the contents into the still crackling fire. Willie is still sitting on his seat with a look of dull resignation on his face, his ghost costume discarded on the arm of the chair. One half of the room is illuminated by the fire, while the other half is still in eerie darkness.

Scene 15 Sound:

The fire is still crackling, waiting patiently for the sweets to be tossed into it. This sound is most likely enhanced diegetic.
