Hidden Hunger: Missing Minerals Documentary introduces the concept of mineral deficiency as a hazard to human health.
It explains why this happened and how food has evolved over the past 50 years.
Organic Fertilizer is not the solution. The solution lies beneath your feet and waves to you at the beach.
My name is Lindsay Aichinger and I got my BS in Chemical Engineering from the Honors College at University of Akron in 2015. After interning at DuPont in the Insecticide Unit, I became fascinated with health and agriculture. Is there a solution out there better than spraying chemicals on food in the farmer's fields? Could mineral deficiency be the key to fighting disease? I have a passion for health and filmmaking, let me help educate you about this epidemic.
La Porte, TX DuPont Gas Leak
In 2013, I interned with DuPont for 5 months at the LaPorte, TX plant. I worked in the Insecticide Unit Crop Protection.
In 2014 after I left, there was an accident in my area. One of the workers accidently released Nitrogen gas into the environment of a small sized warehouse. Within five minutes, she was dead. It was a Saturday morning, her distress signaled others to come to her rescue which also resulted in fatality. A total of four individuals died including two brothers before the gas was completely contained. A year later after further review of the plant by the Chemical Safety Board - it was shut down or sold off to other companies due to safety violations.
I knew one of the workers. An event like this was devastating and it was a turning point for me. What are these chemicals we are making and is there a better way?

At this same time, a documentary called Fed Up started to make a splash. It inspired me to start looking into the Food Industry as a possible culprit for disease.
How could a Twitter post change your life? Information is power and this is exactly what the article attached gave me. Soil health is so important and the more information we spread, the better the public will be armed with to battle disease and chemical based fertilizers. It even inspired the name of the film. Over the past 100 years, food has decreased in mineral content ranging from 4 to 40%. Multiple studies have showed considerable decline in nutirtion due to argicultural focus on yield and pest resistance.
Possible interviewees: Dr. Donald R Davis, Dr. Brian Clement, Dr. Hans Diehle, Dr. Peter Glidden, Dr. Thomas Lodi, Dr. Michael Ozner, Dr. Garry Null, Dr. Colin Campbell, Dr. Joel Wallach, Peter Greenlaw.

In 1936, Rex Beach presented Document # 264 to the Senate claiming that mineral deficiency is a problem for Americans, the problem lies with the soil being demineralized.
Dr. Charles Northern was mentioned in the article who managed to remineralize the soil of his farm.
"Many States show a marked reduction in the productive capacity of the soil in many districts amounting to a 25 to 50 % reduction in the last 50 years [from 1936]. Some areas show a tenfold variation in calcium. Some show a sixtyfold variation in phosphorous. Authorities see soil depletion, barren livestock, increased human death rate due to heart disease, deformities, arthritis, increased dental caries, all due to lack of essential minerals in plant foods."

The rise of NPK fertilizers included only 3 to 4 essential elements or nutrients which includes: Nitrogen, Phosphorous, and Potassium. Scientist, Justus Von Leibig, discovered the necessity of Nitrogen to plant growth. The nitrogen based fertilizer was then coupled with phosphorous and potassium to make NPK fertilizers which became popular due to the growth results of the plants. In fact only 16 minerals in combination make up the majority of commercial fertilizers used today.

Dr. Maynard Murray graduated from Medical School in 1938 and spent most of medical training on the development of sea solids.
In his early days, he noticed how ocean animals do not suffer from the same plagues as land creatures. His research then translated into restoring the health of plants.
Dr. Murray managed to record most of his life work and studies into a book called "Sea Energy Agriculture". His book and knowledge has sparked a revolution that will help restore the mineral depleted soils of our land.

As a university student, Murray had tried to induce cancer in a toad. The amphibian had natural immunity.
Murray sliced open whales and autopsied dolphins and marine mammals searching for organic degeneration, but there was little sickness in the sea.
Ocean trout do not develop cancer, while freshwater trout develop liver cancer after five years.
Murray also noted that aging hardly occurs in the sea. Comparing cells from adult vs. newborn whales showed no evidence of the chemical changes observed in land mammal cells.
Dr. Murray noticed the elements in seawater are essentially the same as in blood, and very close to the same proportions.

The ocean is known to contain about 90 minerals that are essential to biological development.
Organic fertilizer contains about 16 essential minerals and in forms that are not easily absorbable.
Dr. Murray noted that the minerals need to be in ionic form to be absorbable by plants. The minerals need to be in organic form (carbon-based) to be absorbed by animals.
Organic fertilizer in forms of seaweed or fish are not broken down to elemental forms and not easily absorbable by plants. Mineral supplements are not easily absorbed by humans due to it's lack of carbon form. Let food be thy medicine.

Dr. Murray performed tests on lab mice: “C3H mice were obtained for this feeding experiment. This strain of mice has been bred so all of the females develop breast cancer which causes their demise. The life expectancy of this strain for females is no more than nine months which includes the production of two or three litters."
"The experimental and controls both consisted of 200 C3H mice and those fed on control food were all dead within eight months, seven days. The experimental mice that were fed food grown on the sea solids fertilized soil lived until they were sacrificed at 16 months; definitive examination revealed no cancerous tissue. The experimental group produced ten litters compared to the usual two to three litters and none devloped cancer."
Could nutritional deficeincy be the key to developing cancer?

After Dr. Maynard Murray performed his tests on animals, he turned to plants and agriculture. He spent the rest of his life developing and perfecting the sea solid formula to help restore nutritional deficiency in plants and animals.
During this time though (1970/1980's), his research was not taken seriously due to the closed grip of the chemical industry on agriculture.
During the turn of the 20th Century, his reasearch was resurrected with the help of Don Jansen and Charles Walters (Acres Publishing).
Today, there are quite a few companies selling ocean - based fertilizer. The top three includes: Sea-Crop, Sea-Agri, and OceanSolution.
Sea-Crop was founded by Arthur Ziegler in 2004. After reading about Dr. Maynard Murray's research, he was inspired to get involved with revolutionizing soil.
Mr. Ziegler founded the company out of Seattle, Washington where he uses the Pacific Ocean as his source for unpolluted sea water.
Arthur wrote his own book called "Seawater Concentrate for Abundant Agriculture".
His product Sea-Crop also unlocks the power of trace minerals which is explained in his book along with his own studies on the wonders of ocean based fertilizer.
I have been in contact with Arthur and he gave me permission to tour his facility if needed for the documentary. Website: http://www.getseacrop.com.
Robert Cain is the force behind the development of Sea-Agri and the product Sea-Agri 90. The source for their product is a bed of sea salt found in Baja, Mexico (South of San Diego).
The product has became popular over the years and has even entered the animal feed market.
Robert Cain has also authored a number of books and also cites Dr. Maynard Murray as the main inspiration.
I have been in contact with Robert Cain as well but no permission yet of access to facility.

OceanSolution is a company that
formed in 1999 under the direction
of John Hartman. This company
receives the badge of honor as
being "The Original" since
it was the first company to sell
ocean based fertilizer after the
death of Dr. Murray in 1983. David Yarrow is also cited as successor of Murray since he took over his farm in 1982 in Florida where OceanSolution is based.
OceanSolution also had studies completed by Third Parties which showed extradorinary superiority over conventional fertilizers with even higher yields.
No contact has been made with this company yet except Twitter exchanges.

There are a few Documentaries that have been made exploring the importance of soil health, one is called "Symphony of the Soil". Another one is currently being made by the NGO "Kiss The Ground".
Most of these documentaries endorse organic fertilizer practices which is not recommended by Dr. Murray. Organic fertilizer is NOT readily absorbed to the plant and includes much less minerals. No known documentary has been made featuring Dr. Maynard Murray's work. Organic is better than conventional but we must go Beyond Organic and take a deep dive into the ocean.
Directed by Deborah Garcia, this documentary takes you through the story of how soil is crucial in restoring the land. From the Hawaiian islands to Norway, it is apparent that soil health is crucial to the habitat and life of the local ecosystems. Watch the trailer below:
"Kiss the Ground (2018) is a feature-length documentary exposing the lives of scientists, farmers, ranchers, activists and policymakers on the front-lines of the battle to save the world’s soils – and our species. Experience the hope, passion, and commitment inspired by a solution at once complex, and yet so simple; a solution long overlooked because no one thought to look right under our feet. Directed by award winning filmmakers Josh and Rebecca Tickell of Big Picture Ranch."

This film will begin by introducing 3 organic family farms to ocean mineral fertilizer and we will follow their success through the growing season.
The main story will be intertwined with interviews of scientists explaining their research on mineral deficiency.
The beginning will cover mineral deficiency research. The middle will cover the late Dr. Maynard Murray's work. Towards the end, we can cover some of the companies trying to continue his work.
The movie will conclude with the main story and the organic farmer's response to the use of ocean mineral fertilizer.
Instead of an issue film about mineral deficiency, we could center the film around Dr. Maynard Murray's life.
Dr. Maynard Murray compiled lots of research and tried to tell the world of his findings. The film will follow his research and a re-enactment of someone that discovers the flaws in the science behind medicine but was silenced by the agricultural industry at the time. NPK was all of the rage.
Fortunately, people did hear him and a small movement started regarding wheatgrass and ocean mineral fertilizer. His book was republished in early 2000's and the movement was revitalized. The film could end with current users of the soil amendment products.
It begs to ask the question: what is the real story here, the man or the movement? This film version could include both.
Right now, I am in the very early stages of planning the film. No funds yet. I have been trying to spread the news on mineral deficiency since I discovered it last year.
My conversations have been nothing but inspiring especially with individuals who managed to turn their health around with their diet.
Is it our time to truly unveil the real medicine? Please join the revolution with me!
Thanks,
