The Patricians came from a wealthy family and the plebians didn't they came from a poor family. Both groups were made up of Roman citizens. The plebians were mad because they had to pay taxes and serve in the army while the patricians had all the political power. In 494 b.c the plebians came up with a clever plan - they went on strike. They refused to open their shops or serve in the army. About 50 years later the plebians had a new demand.

In 218 b.c, an army from Catherage crossed the Alps and invaded Italy. Both cities knew it was a battle to the death. The Romans finally defeated Catherage in 146 b.c.

Caesar gens name, Julius, is also familiar in the christian world for in Caesar's lifetime the Roman month Quintilis, in which he was born, he renamed July in his honor.
