Leadership Opportunities

Service Through:

Knowledge

Understanding our roles as the interpreters and upholders of the Associated Students of Cerritos College Student Bylaws and Constitution. We study them, and analyze the trends in our school, interpreting the changes as they required.

Action

Court

Built through Knowledge, We place our actions in motion by interpreting and upholding the Bylaws and Constitution. Our interpretations have the power to effect the entirety of the student government as well as the students our establishment serves.

Integrity

Built through our Knowledge and Actions. The Integrity of the Court must never come into question. Unbiased in our methods, absolute in our resolve.

Leadership

Built through Knowledge, Actions, and Integrity. The Court's Leadership comes from their ability to advise and deliver valuable interpretations when required.

Pro Tempore

Breakdown:

In the event the Chief Justice in unable to attend, the Chief Justice Pro Tempore, the Associate Justice elected to this position, shall become the acting Chief Justice.

Once the Chief Justice returns, the Pro Tempore will return to their role as Associate Justice.

"The Court shall Elect a Chief Justice Pro Tempore who shall act in the absence of the Chief Justice." -7.131, Code Section VII

Pro Tempore

Court Clerk

Though not specifically stated in the bylaws the Court Clerk is responsible for recording the minutes of the meeting.

The Court Clerk is also assigned their role by the Chief Justice.

Associate Justice

Breakdown:

Decisions of the Court final and to be considered law.

Injunctions are given to prevent unlawful actions within the student government from taking place.

Attendance is mandatory, if you are not in attendance you are not servicing the students or your fellow members.

Though not specifically stated within the Bylaws the Associate Justice's role within the court is outlined by the powers of the court in Code Section VII.

Such powers and responsibilities include:

"Decisions of the Court shall constitute the final authority of the Associated Students" - 7.11, Code Section VII

"The Court shall have the power to grant Injunctions" -7.23, Code Section VII

"It shall be mandatory that all Justice's attend all meetings unless officially excused by the Chief Justice." - 7.26, Code Section VII

Built through our Knowledge and Actions. Integrity within the Cabinet relies on our ability to execute the tasks we set in motion, attend and conduct our events.

Leadership

Built through Knowledge, Actions, and Integrity. Our executives demonstrate their leadership through their hard work, diligent information gathering and opportunity building methods.

Party Whip

Party Whip

The Party Whip shall:

  • Be appointed by the President and approved by the Senate at the first meeting of each session.
  • Before appointment they shall have attained the office of Senator either in the previous election or by appointment.
  • Be governed by the same regulations as all Senators and have the same rights and responsibilities.
  • Report the action taken on all legislation including vetoes by the President, to the Senate at the Senate Meetings following passage.
  • Report to the Executive Cabinet all actions of the Senate in the previous meeting.
  • Report all vacancies of the Executive Cabinet to the Senate

Deputy Directors

Breakdown:

Each Deputy Director within the Executive branch is responsible for working with their Director to engage and speak to their departments and the students within them.

They are also responsible for a weekly report addressed to the President in the absence of the Director they serve under.

ASCC Treasurer

Breakdown:

The Chief of Staff holds a fair amount of responsibilities for the Cabinet, maintaining minutes, record keeping, and ensuring Roberts Rules are enforced to name a couple.

The Treasurer shall:

  • Meet, on a regular basis, with the Director of Student Activities to discuss the status of the ASCC Budget.
  • Maintain an accurate evaluation of the finances and the financial status of the ASCC through presenting a financial report to the Senate at least once a month.
  • Present any emergency reports on accounts or situations which require investigation or legislative action.
  • Initiate, with the approval of the Executive Cabinet, all requests concerning finances to the Senate.
  • Be chair of the Budget and Finance Committee
  • Be an Honorary member of the Executive Board.

ASCC Treasurer

Chief of Staff

Breakdown:

The Chief of Staff holds a fair amount of responsibilities for the Cabinet, maintaining minutes, record keeping, and ensuring Roberts Rules are enforced to name a couple.

The Chief of Staff shall:

  • Be responsible for taking the minutes for the Executive Cabinet
  • Maintain a central filing system for correspondence relating to student government, legislation, and other associated records.
  • Be responsible for enforcing Roberts Rules of Order in Executive Cabinet Meetings
  • Be responsible for the Executive Report.
  • Assist the ASCC President and Vice President in coordinating and directing fellow members of Cabinet
  • Assist the ASCC President and Vice President in setting "Standing Rules" for respective branches
  • Be an honorary member of the Executive Board.

This officer shall present to the Senate all legislation emanating from the Senate Adviser. This officer shall also serve as titular head of the class" -2.43, Code Section II

Pro Tempore will assume role in the event the President of the Senate is unable to attend, must relinquish the Chair temporally, or permanently.

When not in this role, the Senator shall retain their right of vote and debate,
