Examples

2017 December. 23

A 33 year old woman was found in a Prefabricated hut, dead. When found, she was only 145 cm tall and weighed only 19 kg. 19 kg is the average weight of a 5 year old boy. She had been confined by her parents for 15 years. The door of the hut could have been opened from the inside, but her parents had been monitoring her through a camera. She was given little food only once a day,

and was rarely able to take a shower. The cause of death was freezing.

Isolation and neglect: She was isolated from the outside world and was neglected

by her parents.

Physical abuse: Fed poorly.

Control: As she was confined and was monitored by a camera, she was not able to

have any control over herself.

Victim of coninement. Picture taken when she was an elementary student.

Comparing with The Glass Castle

This case of domestic violence is an example of neglect and isolation. The violence of neglect can also be found in the way the children in The Glass Castle were being treated. None of her parents cared when Jeannette was beaten up at school. The parents were not there to listen to the trouble the kids were going through, which resulted in Maureen's delinquency.

Examples

2018 March

A 4 year old girl was poorly fed and physically abused, which lead to her death. After she died, the letters she wrote to her parents were found. They said, "Papa, Mama, please forgive me. I understand how much I have played. I will not play any more because playing is a sin. I won't do it again. I promise." While most kids learn how to write after starting elementary school, she was already able to read and write at the age of 4 because she was forced to study instead of playing.

Control: A paper was found with around 20 rules written. This included "Study hard" or "clean the bath tub."

Physical: (the parents) Splashed cold water on her on a cold day. Fed poorly. She also had bruises all over her body. She was killed.

Emotional: She was made to think that it is a sin to play instead of studying, even though she was only 4 years old.

Mother of the victim

Comparing with The Glass Castle

This case of domestic violence has similarities and differences with the case of violence in the Walls family. In this example, the daughter is being poorly fed. This is similar to how the kids in The Glass Castle were often starving and looking for food. The difference is that while the child in this example is being controlled by the parents, the kids in The Glass Castle are not. They are more free, but too free that they are close to being neglected.
