Diving Deeper

DIVING DEEPER

The key areas of our work includes:

  • Gender-equitable access to quality education from early childhood to adolescence, including for children with disabilities, marginalized children and those living in humanitarian and emergency settings.
  • Quality learning outcomes and skills development that come from strong education systems and innovative solutions.

Education is a better safeguard of liberty than a standing army.

– Edward Everett

Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family.

– Kofi Annan

“With guns you can kill terrorists, with education you can kill terrorism.”

-Malala Yousafzai

Some Quotes

“Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope. Hope breeds peace.”

– Confucius

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

– Nelson Mandela

“Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it.“ – Marian Wright Edelman

According to data from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), about 263 million children, adolescents and youth worldwide (or one in every five) are out school.

139 million

STATISTICS

63 million

61 million

One in five children, adolescents and youth are out of school

children of primary school age (6-11 years)

youth of upper secondary age (15-17 years)

adolescents of lower secondary age (12-14 years)

The latest figures on out-of-school-children are stalling. Despite strenuous efforts to get every child into primary school, there has been little or no progress at the global level over the past decade. According to the statistics, the progress has been made, but it has now come to a standstill. Since 2012, the number of out-of-school-children has gone down by 4 million.

Causes of lack of education

CAUSES OF LACK OF EDUCATION

  • Children with disabilities and from ethnic minorities are more likely to be left behind.
  • Financial deficit of developing countries
  • Gender discrimination
  • Marginalisation and poverty
  • Location also keeps children from school. Children from rural areas are more than twice as likely to be out of primary school than their urban peers.
  • In conflict zones, 27 million children are out of school.
  • Child labor
  • Language barriers
  • Refugee crisis
  • Displacement

MESSAGE

“He who opens a school door, closes a prison.”

The statement above is our mission statement. It is also a statement written by Victor Hugo. The reason of why we chose this statement is because we wanted to convey the message that education is right of every single child. According to us, we all live in our privileged worlds, full of joy, happiness and with the right to choose our career, which is the reason why we do not understand the gravity of living a life in poverty, in countries in conflict and being a child labor. So, as a privileged society we have the responsibility to ensure the future of children who are being kept in the prison of war, poverty, refugee crisis, exploitation and discriminated by the gender inequality.

In a nutshell, we want to implore everyone that this lost generation, who are not being educated as they should be, is the part of a world in which we privileged society are a part too. We want to implore people not to only donate money for a child education, but on the other hand we want them to give these children some of their time, compassion and we want them to open up their heart so that they can see children not as statistics but as real people. As Aristotele said: “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.”, so our mission is also to grow a seed of campassion in people's heart.
