In successful schools, there is a collective commitment to collaboratively identify, plan, implement, monitor, evaluate, and communicate the changes necessary to continously improve student learning.

Important Changes for 2022-2023 School Year

Changes at RJHS

Reading Plus to iReady Reading

iReady Reading replaced Reading Plus

  • Same software used for math benchmarking, progress monitoring, and growth monitoring

  • Gives students lessons that are targeted to their skill deficit in math or reading

  • Software is now our K-8 benchmarking tool (better for RJHS when students transition from Central)

  • Tool used by our reading interventionists to help provide Tier 3 interventions

Regular Sp. ED PLC Meetings

RJHS Special Education PLC Meetings

  • Meet every 3 weeks

  • Review student growth data within our SWD population

  • Use data to make changes to teaching practice and delivery of instruction

  • Led by Laura Ballard (thank you!)

PD Changes

  • CKH training for new staff and paraprofessionals

  • In-person iReady reading PD as well as follow up remote PD

Professional Development

Changes to RJHS Schedule

  • Added a 40 minute resource period daily for all students with IEPs

  • Able to provide more Tier 2 interventions and homework help

  • Created a separate schedule for Shell Academy

  • Maggie runs weekly attendance reports

  • Bi-weekly attendance meetings with Chad Ambuehl, Shannon Wallace, Maggie Dillinger, and our parent advocates

  • Regular home visits and relationship building by our parent advocates to minimize truancy and chronic absenteeism

MTSS/RTI

Revised Multi-Tiered System of Support

  • Added IT Systems

  • IT Systems makes recommendations for entrance into and exit from Shell Academy

  • Team consists of building admininstrators, social worker, teacher from each grade, and one of our teacher leads, and Mr. Bergman from Shell Academy

Social Work

Social Work

  • Weekly one-hour meetings at South campus with all social workers to problem solve student needs/behaviors

  • Tier 1 SEL support to all students provided by teachers during one advisory weekly using scripted lessons from CKH

  • In addition to Shannon Wallace, we have a year-long contract with Refuge who provides a counselor who has an office in our building to provide additional supports for our students

Houses

  • Created a student advisory committee

  • Goal of getting more student leadership and input into House decisions such as what incentives to offer House winners, what House activities they would want for House days, theme days, etc.
