Onsite Solar Array
Contruct an onsite solar array to provide the power requirements for the WWTP reducing the carbon footproint of the facility and firming energy costs:
TO DO LIST:
- Confirm Future Load Requiremetns including redundancy
- Configure a solar and battery system to meet demand & load
- Enter into a Power Purchase Agreement at current power costs
Oxygen Integration Analysis & Methodology
Research & Analysis
Develop Methodology
Review & Confirm
1 - Research & Analysis
2 - Develop Methodology
- Review existing data relating to O2 integration at the Mt St John facility and similar treatmetn plants
- Analyse the future potential impacts on operational effciency, energy consumption and outfall wastewater quality
- Develop a methodology of small scale O2 testing for when supply is available
- Seek independant RPEQ approval of O2 testing methodology and potential impacts
- Design and estimate costs of O2 integration
- Confirm requirements and funding sources
- Prepare O2 integration methodlogy for Stage 2

Collaboration and Advocacy
Council Vehicle Transition
- Assist in achieving Councils 2027 target for 70% zero emission mobility (Corporate Plan)
- Analyse current fleet to trasnition to EV and H2FC Vehicles
- Develop H2FC refueling and EV charging infrastructure from stage 1 solar array and stage 2 H2 production
- Develop H2 and EV charging off take agreement with Council
Local Business Engagement
- Engage with Townsville Enterprise and the Townsville Chamber of Commerce to educate local businesses on renewable energy integration
- Complete energy profile analysis with large local businesses to outline the potentil of H2 integration
- Develop Social license and awareness for green H2 to drive future demand
- Liaise with local H2 projects to share experience and assist with problem solving
- Support local H2 market development
- Scope the potential to treat WWTP outfall wastewater as quality water feedstock for other H2 production projects (eg Lansdown)
- Support Council, Townsville Enterprise and the NQHR in advocating for local industry support
Stage 2 H2 & O2 Integration
Stage 2 H2 & O2 Integration
H2 Production at the WWTP
Based on the off take agreement with Council vehicles, install an electrolyser at the WWTP to produce H2 and distribute to H2 refueling infrastructure
H2 Production at the WWTP
H2 Refueling Infrastructure
H2 Refueling Infrastructure
Based on the analysis in Stage 1, install H2 refueling infrastructure at the WWTP and/or at Coucnil depots while waiting for local service stations to install H2 refuelers
Commence O2 Integration
Based on the analysis in Stage 1, commence the O2 testing phase to identify a permanent solution that provides the maximum benefit to operational efficiencies, energy consumption and quality of outfall wastewater.
Local Business H2 Demand Development
Local Business H2 Demand Development
Based on the analysis in Stage 1, work with individual local businesses to develop hydrogen solutions that provide access to cheaper, greener energy
Scale Up : Increase the scale of green H2 production at the WWTP to meet local demand
Replicate : Assist local businesses in 'DIY H2'
