Tartarus is the infernal regions of the Underworld. Tartarus is seen as the deep abyss that is used as a dungeon of torment and suffering for the wicked. It was also used as a prison for the Titans.
The Fields of Asphodel or the Asphodel Meadows is where indifferent or ordinary souls were sent. These souls lived a life of neither good or evil. Majority of souls are sent to the Asphodel Meadows after being judged.

The river of Lethe flowed around the cave of Hypnos and through the Underworld. All those who drank from Lethe would experience complete forgetfulness. The river was named after the Greek spirit of forgetfulness and oblivion.
The River of Styx was the main river located in the Underworld, but it was also the embodyment of Styx, goddess of oaths, who sided with Zues during th ebattle with the TItans.The river was also called the RIver of Hades and it was one of the five rivers in the Underworld that separated the realm of the living from the realm of the dead.
Acheron is the river of woe or the river of misery. It is considered in some tales as the principal river of the Underworld. The river in the mortal realm was thought to go to Hades because it flowed through dark gorges and went underground in several places.
The Phlegethon river is also known as "The River of Fire." The river flows from Hades' realm down to into Tartarus. Phlegethon is used to keep the wicked alive so they can endure the torments of the Fields of Punishment.
The Erinyes were three female goddesses, seeking vengeance against anyone who sworn false oath or done an evil act. They were created when the Titan Uranus was castrated by his son Cronus.
Hecate is the goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, and the moon. Her purpose in the Underworld was to be the guardian of all journeys and those in the afterlife. Hecate is also seen as the goddess of choices or cross roads.
Erebus or Erebos is the god of the dark regions in the Underworld and the personification of darkness. Erebus helped finish the Underworld by filling the empty spaces of the Underwold with his dark mists.
Nyx is the Greek goddess of the night and she is the daughter of Chaos. She is also married to Erebus who is the Greek god of darkness. Nyx gives counsel directions and reviews the days work of Chthonic Gods and staff. She is also credited with helping Erebus spread the dark mist around the Underworld.
Thanatos is the personification of death and he is the son of Nyx. He would appear to the humans and drag their souls to the Underworld when the time allotted to them by the Fates had expired. He carries the souls to the river of Acheron where they will meet Charon. Thanatos followed the command of Hades who is the ruler of the Underwold.
Hypnos was a primordial deity who was given the personification of sleep. He lives a cave that has the river of Lethe flowing through it. Hypnos' job in the Underworld was to put people to sleep and make them forget all about their troubles. This was helpful for the dead to forget their past lives once they arrived in the Underwolrd.
Charon is the ferryman of Hades and the Greek Underworld. He carries the souls who have been given funeral rights across the rivers of Acheron and Styx. The rivers separate the realm of the living and the dead.
Cerberus is known as "the hounds of Hades". He is the three-headed dog that guards the gates of the Underworld to keep the spirits inside. Cerberus is often seen patrolling the banks of the river of Styx. The river is a barrier between the realm of the living and the dead.
Hades is the ruler of the dead and the Underwold. Hades would rarely leave the Underworld. His main focus was making sure that his subjects did not leave his domain. Persephone was the goddess of spring and agriculture. She is also Queen of the Underworld. Her main purpose was to be a protectress. Heroes would often travel through the Underworld but when they were spotted, Hades showed them no mercy. Instead, Persephone was the one to help them escape.
Minos, Aeacus, and Rhadamanthys are brothers. These brothers are the judges of the dead. They were originally mortal men and sons of the god Zeus. They were granted their station in death as a reward for establishing law and order on Earth.
The Lernean Hydra was located in a region called Lerna and this region was known for its views of the water. Lerna had many lakes, swamps, and springs that the Lernean Hydra could live in. The Hydra's most important job was to guard the entrance of the Underworld from any wary travelers. The Hydra's presence caused the water ways in this region to be undrinkable.
Lake Acheron is considered as one of the many entrances to the underworld. Due to the deep gorges that it would flow through, locals thought that the river would lead to the underworld. The river would also disappear underground and pass through a marshy lake. Lake Acheron was also said to have an oracle of the dead beside it.
The Cleft in the Ground is associated with one of the famous Greek stories about how Hades kidnapped Persehone. Hades created a cleft in the ground so that he could take Persephone with him to the underworld and make her his bride. After Hades created the cleft, Hercules(Heracles) was another person who used the Cledt in the Ground to get to the Underworld.
Lake Avernus is located in the Campania region of Southern Italy. The lake is best known for being an entrance to the Underworld and Hades himself. The Greeks and Romans associated all of nature with their patheon gods so it was natural for Italy to do the same. Lake Avernus has a region with furmaroles and hellish gas emittions that would come from the ground. They associated this with the Underworld and Hades.
