a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants.
According to recent research, it is proven that deforestation in tropical rainforests around the world adds more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than the total amount of diesel cars and trucks that are currently on the roads. Researchers have discovered that 15 (or more) percent of the global carbon emission is due to deforestation that is happening all around the world.
Deforestation affects global warming because all plants take in carbon dioxide (CO2) and release oxygen which is photosynthesis a natural way for plants to provide nutrients for themselves and provide oxygen for the atmosphere, by cutting down trees especially in large quantities the trees emit the carbon that was being stored into the atmosphere and the carbon reacts with the oxygen in the environment to create carbon dioxide. When the trees are cut down or burned it releases the carbon dioxide which increases the greenhouse gasses resulting in the earth warming also known as global warming.
- CO2 and other greenhouse gases keep the Earth’s surface 33°Celsius (59.4°F) warmer than it would be without them.
- We have added 42% more CO2, and temperatures have gone up.
- The average global temperature on Earth has increased by about 0.8°Celsius since 1880
- Two-thirds of the warming has occurred since 1975, at a rate of roughly 0.15-0.20°C per decade."
- 60 percent of fossil-fuel emissions stay in the air.

The concentration of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is more than it has ever been in the past 400,000 years, the concentration of carbon dioxide has increased over the past few decades due to harmful practices and has caused the concentration to increase by half of the amount it was in the ice age.
The amount of carbon dioxide in the environment is measured by the measurement of parts per million (PPM).
2013 and up to 2017 the CO2 levels have surpassed 400 ppm and is the highest it has ever been for the first time in recorded history, during the ice ages, CO2 levels were around 200 parts per million meaning that the current levels of carbon dioxide have doubled since then.
If fossil-fuel burning and deforestation continues at the rate we are currently going at science predicts that CO2 levels continue to rise to levels and potentially reach 1500 ppm.

The Canadian government and industries have taken drastic measures t protect our forests and the environment. In Canada, over 90% of our forests are publicly owned meaning the government had full custody over the way they are treated. Some ways Canada is looking after our forest is that they are now having forest management to ensure that harvesting is sustainable and safe, Canada has also enforced many laws including federal laws regarding the harvesting of trees.
As of 2015, more than 46% of Canada’s forests – 166 million hectares – had been certified are protected by the laws enforced and the number continues to raise. This represents 43% of all certified forests in the world.
Everyone in this world has an impact on how the world is treated even if its a little impact it makes a change and if more people realized they have a saw in how our only earth is treated it would be a different world. By making little changes such as walking instead of driving, purchasing woods from monitored harvesting and even more but it takes one person to start the change to create a long-lasting effect..
In conclusion, deforestation and the emission of CO2 into our environment is a serious issue that needs to change immediately or else it will continue to kill our world. This is an issue that human-created meaning we can change and make our world a better place to live, with the government and large industries they can make large impacts by cutting back on deforestation and the production of it, with common people like us we can make little differences like walking instead of driving and switching what kind of car we use. Thank you for reading our case on carbon dioxide.
