~Its has been an independent republic and has held regular elections since 1838

Honduras supports the principles and practices of international law, that promote solidarity and self-determination of peoples, non-intervention and the strengthening of universal peace and democracy (Article 15).

Any treaty or convention entered into by the Executive branch, relating to the national territory, shall require approval by the National Congress by a vote of not less than three fourths of its members. ( Article 20).

After a long, unexplained delay, The TSE announced that Salvador Nasralla was winning by 57% of the votes, but later the electronic count delay for 30 hours. On November 30, Hernandez was ahead by 1.5% points.

Tens of thousands of outraged Hondurans took to the streets. The government responded by declaring a curfew and deploying military and police who assailed protesters with an intense barrage of tear gas and live ammunition. At least thirty demonstrators were killed over the following month.
