Multimedia Project

Introduction

Projects which utilizes a variety of medias in order to reach its objectives and a target audiences.

Great project comes from great planning and ideas.

General Steps

Conceptualization

What?

“Everything starts with an idea”, it is the stage where you have visualized something either a message, an idea, a knowledge, a value or an opinion which you want to either share to a general audience or specific.

Why?

Steps

It’s really a challenge on any aspect to try and do something without a purpose or starting with just an idea.

How?

Group related ideas, Identify the best media appropriate for your idea. Determine your objective

Step 2

Content Research

What?

After having the idea, you definitely need to identify references. This is a method from which you try to look for related concept and research on possible contents which will transform your idea into a product.

Why?

Time consuming but having the necessary contents will greatly help you in formalizing the outline for an actual project or product

How?

Try to look for related products similar to your product’s objectives. Try to learn the do’s and don’ts.

Storyboarding

What?

Pre Visualization or interpretation of the concept into key scenes for the animation. Pre-production step which will determine the flow of the story.

Why?

It's really expensive and time consuming to visualize the scene and at same time enacting all of them. Having a guide which show how each scenes will flow will be of a great help.

How?

Read the script and identify key moments and scenes, try to distinguish and tell the story by dividing each important events through drawings w/ details.

Project Development

The actual project/product building stage.

• Production Manager- coordinates

the team/group

• Computer Graphics Artist- produces the actual contents for the development.

• Content Specialist- does the research for references and contents.

• Animator- animates the materials through a software or through series drawings.

• Script Writer- may initialize or base the dialogue on the story board.

• Text Editor- checks the grammar.

• Programmer- inserts instructions and functions which will be used by the project.

Audio Selection

What?

The process where sound for effects, audio/voice overs for dialogues are set up.

Why?

Audio is an essential part of animation where it provides assistance in highlighting key points of your animation.

How?

Usually done by a separate group and after reading and reviewing key scenes audio are either researched or produced themselves.

User Interaction

What?

The process of adding user interaction to your animation this greatly add to user interaction with your product.

Why?

Having more interaction other viewing and listening gives/arises interest to your audiences.

How?

Adding action script which is triggered by buttons and adds decision making on certain events of the animation allows the users to immerse to your media.

Project Output Testing

What?

This testing is done by reviewing the actual all in all result of the development.

Why?

This is done in order to make sure your product is good for deployment.

How?

Each stages of the animation are reviewed again and played in a manner that this actual animation is being deployed to its actual viewers.

Things being reviewed during Evaluation:

• Application design

• Sound

• Graphics and navigation

• Project goal and objectives

• Content accuracy

• Delivered via proposed medium

• Text and narration

• Legal considerations

Types of Evaluation

• Internal Evaluation

- the product is reviewed and tested by the people working inside the team.

• Alpha Testing

-product is tested by known individuals in order to determine if the general direction and structure are adequate.

• Beta Testing

-product is tested by potential users. Though limited, what matters most here is not the overall rate of the product rather than the user’s feedback and suggestions.

Project Revisions and Updates

What?

Makes necessary changes based on the results of testing.

Why?

Not everything is perfect and it’s really a great idea that the changes is based on the user’s feedback.

How?

The results from the evaluations are reviewed and then the development team makes revisions and changes to the actual product.

Project Documentation

What?

A method from which important parts of the actual product should have supporting documentations which will help it during development and during deployment.

Why?

References, there may be parts of the products which requires a tremendous amount of information in order to be determined and having a documentation of a particular topic will greatly be helpful.

Multimedia delivery product

What?

The product is assumed to be in a stage from which it is ready to be deployed. Thus, it is made available as a marketable product.

Why?

Having the finished product should be deployed in order to reach the maximum amount of audience. Hence, it is important to determine which media to use.

How?

Usually development is assisted by other teams which helps and is tasked to assist in publishing the actual product. Either deploying them in the selected media.

Design Standards

There are no standards in animation film design, but utilizing existing generic standards can really help in establishing and improving your actual output.

1. Design Outline- Discussion about features and audiences.

2. Preliminary Design- Contents

Standards

3. Final Design- Similar with preliminary but with more details

4. Design Specs-answers the how of final design.

5.Graphic Bible - Collection of artworks.

6.Interactive Screenplay - dialogs and

other text based instructions.

Design Principles

The user interface is from which the user is able to interact with your product.

Structure Principle

contents should be clear and consistent for a target audience.

Simplicity Principle

Principles

User friendly design for user interactions

Visibility Principle

The storyline is easily identified by the audience

More Principles

Feedback Principle

Changes on the scene should show connection on previous and preceding scenes.

Tolerance Principle

Follows that the product is flexible to sudden and immediate changes.

Reuse Principle

Artwork/ materials should be easily available for other projects.

SUMMARY

Excellent design would involve great planning.

The ten steps are essential for the success of a project.

Summary

There are six user interface fundamental designs from experts which includes clear and consistent designs.

Elements of designs are: Line, form, and color.
