Piye and conquest of Egypt

Conquest of Egypt

Kushites, including Piye, believed in Amon, the Sun god. And religion was very important to Kushites.

And Tefnakhte, the Lybian chieftain, threatened Amon , even though Lybia is the Amon`s homeland. This provoked Piye to move northward. After ritual visit to Thebes, Piye's forces met the ship of Lybians and defeated it. Then Piye defeated the army of Heracleopolis , and moved to Hermopolis , another Lybian important city. The last city on Piye's list was Memphis, Egypt's capital. Later, Piye got a submission of several delta potentates, and then, he got submission from the representative of 23rd dynasty. He then invaded the delta, where more rulers gave up. Finally, Tefnakhte sent him a submission. Then Piye send his forces to take his oath of fealty. And after some final submissions, Piye sailed back home. He celebrated his victory and remained in his capital. I want to admit that due to Piye, Egypt united. Civil wars stopped and people lived in peace. In my opinion, that his decision is pretty reasonable, and it was good for villagers.

Past in Present days

Past in Present days~

In conclusion we can say that Piye was a good leader. He cared about his villagers , and always moved forward. But he would not conquer the whole Egypt without his army. And if his army always followed him, that means, people really respected him. However, we are not talking about how good Piye was, but a completely another thing. I tried to figure out, how Piye could solve modern day issues. But always, day by day, I returned to the same answer. In ancient times, war and invasions were the parts of developing empires. But now we are living in a completely another era. Politics and government these days are completely different. So, at the end , I want to say that Piye would not be a perfect ruler , to solve modern day issues.
