How we write lists

LISTS

  • Only write one list at a time
  • Beer/NAB

  • Organize your list
  • Break it down into sections
  • Package types/families

  • Writing lists should be quick yet effective
  • Practice abbreviation and short hand

  • Write clearly so it's easy to read

Execution on the Sales Floor

EXECUTION ON THE FLOOR

FILLING

PRODUCT

Filling Product

Product needs to be filled onto the floor using the list you just made

  • Pulling from back stock and the load

Fill product on sales floor accurately

  • Do not over stuff shelves
  • Do not stock items incorrectly

List accuracy ensures proper amount of product goes out to the sales floor

How do

you rotate?

Rotation

Oldest date should be purchasable in front

  • Think: First In, First Out

Don't assume the product is necessarily in rotation based on when it came in on deliveries

Rotating back stock will allow for proper rotation on the sales floor

It's as simple as looking at dates and codes

ARRANGING BACK STOCK

ARRANGING

BACK STOCK

What is back stock??

The Backroom

An area designated for Columbia beer/NAB, in the back room of accounts/stores

We keep product organized by

  • Family
  • Size
  • Package type
  • Beer separate from NAB
  • Safe stacks

When we work in the backroom, be aware of

  • Heavy equipment around you
  • Wet or uneven floors
  • Other vendors
  • Respect the space your working in

What to expect with back stock

What to Expect with Back Stock

  • Not all back stocking is done the same

  • There are different ways to arrange

  • Some accounts/stores will have less space available, so you will have to build pallets

  • Accounts will occasionally be in rough shape
  • Many accounts/stores also have their own staff working our product, so things may be altered. Don't jump to conclusions

Examples

of Opportunities to Improve

Do you see the opportunities for improvement in this back stock?

  • Brew Dr. Kombucha
  • Calypso
  • Beer stacked with NAB
  • Empty shells
  • Product sitting on the floor
  • Unsafe stacking on the top, in the back

What about in this back stock?

  • Broken product
  • Product falling
  • Multiple open cases
  • Beer on NAB
  • Product that isn't ours

Take a close look at this one. This pallet is still mostly 'warehouse-stacked'.

Here are some ways leaving a board from a load like this impacts the team

  • Very hard to get to anything on the bottom
  • Not setting the next merchandisers up for efficient execution
  • Usually indicates to the store that there was product that wasn't worked

Finally, walk the back room- Sometimes pallets get moved around

What opportunities for improvement do you see in this back stock?

  • Product sitting on the floor
  • Use a pallet

Anything good to take away?

  • Like-items together
  • Items are condensed
  • Most of the stacks are consistent

This back stock has product tipping over, This is dangerous, and may result in injury or damaged product

Solution?

  • Full cases on the bottom/base
  • Mixed cases on the top of stacks
  • Cross stacks to prevent them from splitting apart

The art of back stocking

The Art of Back stocking

  • How to take a delivery and turn it into workable back stock

  • Think about it before you start, organize as you go

  • Set your team up for success
  • Yourself
  • Your merch team
  • The sales team

Ideal Examples

Keep like items together

  • 12 packs flavor-stacked

  • Each flavor can be reached

  • Safe height

Keep like items together

  • 12 and 24 pack beer

  • Flavor-stacked

  • Everything is reachable

Keep like items together

What do we see in this back stock?

  • 6 pack beer
  • Flavor-stacked
  • Nothing is buried

Arrange by type

What do you see in this back stock?

  • Categories
  • Craft
  • Imports
  • Domestics
  • Cider/Malt
  • Family/ Package size
  • Singles packs on top shelf

Arrange back stock by weight

We can see

  • Light product is stacked on the top shelf
  • Heavier product is in an easier location to grab
