How Hawaii became a state

How it relates to American Imperialism
- On July 7th, 1898, the U.S. annexed Hawaii due to war needs.
- Hawaii The Age of Imperialism. The U.S. first got involved in 1875 when a treaty was signed between the U.S. and Hawaii.
- Instead, the U.S. waited 5 years until they set up a second treaty of annexation with the new Hawaiian government.
- This insecurity also led to the war against Spanish. Hawaii was annexed to the United States in 1898 when Queen Liliuokalani tried to restore the power of monarchy after the death of King Kalakaua.
Why did the U.S. wanted Hawaii
- One reason was because Hawaii played an important role in the interest of US's economy.
What actions were taken to imperialize
The U.S. was wanting Hawaii's sugar cane for alcohol.
How did Hawaii react to the U.S. imperialism

- When the final treaty was put into action the natives of Hawaii were very against it
- Some of the positive impacts were that Hawaii gained many resources, the humanity in Hawaii was expanded as well and it gave Hawaii more of an opportunity to be a apart of a democracy and find a way to live new lifestyles.
Impact
- Some of the negative effects were brutal for some of the Hawaiians. Their original and main culture was basically wiped out and they couldn't do much about it.
The Hawaiians want their own land back and they don't want to be apart of the U.S.
