- The Englihment played a huge part into this ( Natural Rights)
1817 - 1862
- Henry David Thoreau was a philosopher, poet and enviromental scientist
- His job was to look at the main problems of living in the world as a human
- He was digusted by how the people were treated during the Mexican - American War, and wrote the " Civil Disobedience
- He came up with the " right to protest"
- 1865
- This took place during the American Civil War
- " Emancipation Prociamation" is a document issued by Former President Lincoln, which list to set all slaves in states free
- The war was flipped around into a battle for " a new birth of freedom" - Lincoln
- This influcned many leaders during the civil rights period
1914 - 1918
- Many Armerians (millions) were slaughter by the Turks of the Ottoman Empire
- Turkish goverment had a plan to kill a large group Armemians
- It was conisdered a genocide as a large group of people of the armemian race where killed
1918 - Now
There are four waves to the feminist movement however I am only going to speak about the first wave
- It took place in the 1910's more speicfally 1918-1920
- Known as the "Woman Suffrage"
- Woman were protesting for the right to vote in elections
- August 18 1920, the 19th Amendment was changed and allowed woman the right to vote
- 1930's
- He was an Activist, more specifally an Indian Activist
- Was the leader of the " Indian Independce Movement"
- Accouned the idea of " nonviolent civil disobedience"
-Citizens would not listen to some laws, demands, orders or commands of the goverment
- Led to more forms of protest and the Independence and freedom of India
- 1945
- The UN was meant to take over the "League of Nations", which was very unsuccesful
- The UN was formed because it was help prevent another conflict, such as a World War
- This led to the creation of " The Universial Declaration of the Human Rights"
- At the start there were 51 member states, now there are 193
- 1960's
- The goal of this movement was end legal racial segregation
- Many protest were used during this movement
- Started in mid 50's and went til the 60's
- Opened up to new and reformed federal laws
- 2020
- Black Lives Matter has been around since 2013, however became more prominent after the death of George Floyd
- There have been numerous protest, talking about the injustice agaisnt Black lives and how their lives matter
- Topics such as white supremacy are brought up in this
- How a white person could get away with something, however someone who is black did that same thing, they wouls be killed
- The goal for Black Lives is to be in a world where Black lives arent puropsefully targeted for death
- The BLM organization, say that they care for ALL black lives . That includes Black queer and trans folks, disabled folks, undocumented folks, folks with records, women, and all Black lives along the gender spectrum.
