ROLE-MODEL

Imam Hussain was a brilliant man and is definitely an amazing role model for me, his charisma and sense of justice, are some of his characteristics which today I look up to.

Imam Hussain (AS) laid his life down for his religion and that changed the world forever. Imam Hussian became a symbol of sacrifice in the struggle for right and wrong.

I chose this person as my hero because he showed no fear to his enemy and was a great fighter. He saved the religion of Islam.

LEAD UP TO THE WAR

The Battle of Karbala took place because Yazid the Caliph/ leader of the time was a extremely self absorbed man who only thirsted power . When his father died, he became the Caliph appointed by his father, and he told his governors that anyone who doesn't pledge their allegiance to him shall be beheaded .

Imam Hussain wasn't going to pledge his allegiance to a cruel man like Yazid .

So Yazid became furious at Imam Hussain so he planned the attack on Hussain.

Struggles

STRUGGLES

Imam Hussain did not want Yazid's ruthless forces to attack his city and risk civilians lives.

Along with most of his family and 72 companions,. Imam Hussain made his way towards the Kufa (East) seeking to gain support for his uprising whilst avoiding violence.

It was on this journey Hussain, his family and companions were forced to stop by an army of over 30,000, on the hot plains of a land called Karbala, Iraq.

How Imam Hussain Knew about his fate

THE PROPHECY

Imam Hussain knew about his fate from a young age when his Grandfather Prophet Muhammad (SAW) foretold that he will be left alone in a land called Karbala. Yet Imam Hussain (AS) always accepted his fate and even on the day of Ashura when he was left all alone, he never doubted Allah’s plan.

AL ABBAS

AL ABBAS

Yazid's army prevented Hussain (AS) and his companions from accessing the Euphrates River. Hussain and his companians stayed in their camp thirsty without wate rand starved because they had no food for three days. They were surrounded by soldiers of Yazid so no one could leave or enter the camp of Imam Hussain . Eventually, when Abbas ibn Ali went to the river to get water for the children of the camp, he was surrounded by hundreds of soldiers who tried to prevent him from taking water by dismembering his body one part after another until the fell to the ground. Imam Hussain (AS) immediately came to him. Al Abbas (AS) Called his brother for the first by akhi meaning brother and requested him not to take his body to the tents and soon after he died on Imam Hussain’s lap.

To this day, the death of Hussain (AS) and his companions is commemorated by Muslims on the 10th of Muharram every year on the Islamic calendar, the tenth day is the most significant, this day is commonly known as the day of Ashura.

Each day leading up to Ashura is dedicated to a fallen comrade or family member of Imam Hussain.

Hussain's (AS) death has a place in the remeberance of humanity as a whole many scholars outside the religion of Islam have spoken about him. People saw Imam Hussain (AS) as someone who fought against oppression. Imam Hussain (AS) became a person whom we greatly admire for his courage, sacrifice, and bravery.

ARBAEEN

ARBAEEN

The Day of Arbaeen marks forty days after the Day of Ashura. Typically, on this day people organise large marches in cities across the world to symbolise the eternal nature of Imam Hussain’s revolution, and to show they stand for social justice, compassion and dignity.. Because of the previous government in Iraq and the brutal punishments of Sadam the great walk was abandoned and In past 2 decades a tradition of walking 80km from Najaf (the resting place of Ali the father of Hussain) to Karbala has been reignited, Every year since, the number has been rising steadily from 17 million pilgrims to at least 25 million, People from all walks of life and all corners of the globe make the journey, despite the imminent threat of terrorists who have vowed to attack the pilgrims. Along the stretch from Najaf to Karbala volunteers distribute free food and drinks to those at the pilgrimage, as well as offering places to relax, wash and sleep. keep in mind everything they're offering is free of charge .
