Narrative Hook

2

Mukherjee achieves in hooking the reader in by mentioning two immigrant sisters in America that differ in their views of the status of immigrants.

Immigration has been a hot topic in America for a while, so reading about two immigrant sisters who have differing views on immigration hooks the reader.

Rising Action & Climax

3

Rising action occurs when Mukherjee mentions that long-term immigrants were being targeted and she began to argue with Mira.

The climax occurs when Mukherjee questions why America would be placing rules upon immigrants that had been here for a while. As well as when Mira snaps and says she'll become a U.S. citizen to play the "manipulative game."

Falling Action & Resolution

4

Falling Action and Resolution occur when Mukherjee looks at Mira's point of view and relates with her and understands why Mira felt the way she felt.

Mukherjee ends by once again saying she and Mira differ and explains how Mira is happier living one way and she is happier living her way, but being an immigrant comes with a price, "the trauma of self transformation."
