The most daring sea rescue of all time occurred in the winter of 1952 off the coast of New England, and was led by Bernie Webber

a massive storm starts of coast of Maine
Two T-2 Tankers split in half in the middle of a massive storm off the coast of Maine.
Half was left with electricity and receiving radio, and the other half was without electricity but had the transmitter. They weren't able to communicate to the coast guard that they were lost.
Only because a plane noticed it in the distance, was a rescue called for.
Called in an SOS, which alerted the Coast Guard to come save them. The Coast Guard used radar to help locate them.
When Bernie took the 36500 through the bar, a wave hit the windshield, shattered the glass, and his compass was missing
Bernie had to use instinct to guide them to the stranded tanker
Rescuers had a lifeboat between the rescue boat and Pendleton
Pendleton members had to jump down to the lifeboat
Last guy was supposed to unhook the line from the Pendleton before jumping but didn’t
Rescue boat pulled on the line to the lifeboat hoping the line to the Pendleton would break instead of the line to the rescue boat
The line to the Pendleton snapped, and the crew members were able to be hauled to safety
17 minutes after rescuing crew, Pendleton capsized
It was a miracle that Bernie and his crew were able to save 32 men from the Pendleton in the midst of horrendous and terrifying conditions
