The battle of Leyete Gulf is considered to be one the largest naval battle in WW2 and somewhat refereed to as the largest naval battle in history due to over 200,000 naval presonell being involved

Where was this battle at? Who was involved? When did this battle take place?

The battle of Leyete Gulf was located in the waters near the Phillipine islands of Leyete, Samar, and Luzon in Southeast Asia.

In this battle, it was the American and Austrailian forces fighting agianst the Japaneese.

It took place from 23-26 of October 1944

Why did this battle happen?

It was an invasion of the Philippine island of Leyete to isolate Japan from its overtaken countries in Southeast Asia because it occupied a vital source of induatrial and oil supplies.

What happened in this battle?

There were four main battles of Leyete Gulf such as the Battle of the Sibuyan Sea, the Battle of Surigao Strait, the Battle off Cape Engaño and the Battle of Samar.

It was also the first battle in which Kamakazi attacks were used.
