The battle of Leyete Gulf was located in the waters near the Phillipine islands of Leyete, Samar, and Luzon in Southeast Asia.

It was an invasion of the Philippine island of Leyete to isolate Japan from its overtaken countries in Southeast Asia because it occupied a vital source of induatrial and oil supplies.
There were four main battles of Leyete Gulf such as the Battle of the Sibuyan Sea, the Battle of Surigao Strait, the Battle off Cape Engaño and the Battle of Samar.
It was also the first battle in which Kamakazi attacks were used.
