Contract Partnerships
AFL Construction Services is committed to working with our subcontractors, service provides, and vendors in a safe and diligent manner. By exemplifying a safety conscious attitude in our approach to the execution of our work plans we feel we will foster an overall stronger safety culture. Our ultimate goal is to achieve an incident and accident free workplace where everyone goes home safe, every day.
AFL Canada Construction Services works with its Subcontractors to identify potential hazards during contracted work. Additionally, AFL Canada Construction Services expects Subcontractors to protect their workers from identified hazards.
AFL Canada Construction Services mandates that Subcontractors have an effective Health and Safety Program in place to meet legislative, AFL Canada Construction Services and Client requirements.
Although AFL Canada Construction Services intervenes when there is an immediate risk of injury, disease, or environmental incident; it is not AFL Canada Construction Service’s role to direct the day-to-day activities of the Subcontractor workers.
Compliance with legislative requirements, along with general maintenance of a high quality Health and Safety Program is part of the contractual commitment for ALL AFL Canada Construction Services approved Subcontractors.
Any deficiencies noted will be brought to the attention of the Subcontractor. AFL Canada Construction Services will participate in identifying effective solutions and any failure to take appropriate corrective action will result in non-compliance and a formal review of the issue.
AFL Canada Construction Services has the obligation to stop work on the worksite if the deficiency is significant, for the period required to complete a formal review of the issues.
All Subcontractor Management processes shall be in accordance to Subcontractor Management Process.
Unless approved by AFL CS management, contractors are NOT ALLOWED to subcontract their work out to a third party. If approved, then any 2nd tier subcontractor MUST follow the Subcontractor Management Process.
A Safe Work Practice (SWP) shall be submitted with all applicable JHAs for the contractor’s scope of work prior to the commencement of work, and reviewed prior to the commencement of any new task. In the absence of an appropriate SWP, a Job Hazard Assessment (JHA) or similar tool must be completed. The review of these documents must include the workers who will be engaged in the task.
Safety Program - A copy of your Company Safety Program is requested to be submitted AFL CS HSE. The program should include your company safety policy statement, signed by your senior executive as well as applicable Safe Work Practices and Job Procedures. Where your Company Safety Program does not meet or exceed portions of the AFL CS Safety Program, the AFL CS Safety Program is to be followed.
Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) that is required on this project includes, as a minimum, CSA approved hard hat, CSA approved safety glasses including side shields, CSA approved steel toed safety boots. High visibility safety vests are required to be worn in all circumstances. Hearing protection, safety gloves and specialized PPE are required as per JHA and SWP.
Equipment Certifications or yearly inspections as outlined in the applicable provincial Occupational Health and Safety Regulations must be carried out. Copies of all these certifications are to be immediately available to the worksite (in the equipment) and are to be provided to AFL CS prior to the commencement of work activities on site. Example: Boom trucks etc. must be certified and the operator of which is to complete a documented inspection of this equipment. Please note that any equipment that has had a lifting hook (or other such lifting mechanism) added to it either in a boom or bucket or otherwise (by anyone other than the manufacturer) must have been inspected and certified by an engineer or it will not be acceptable for use.
Equipment Inspections are to be carried out on all equipment on a daily basis at the commencement of the operators work shift. These inspections are to be completed in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations and Federal OH&S regulations. These inspections must be documented in a manner that can allow for follow up and prove Due Diligence. Copies of these Inspections are to be made available onsite with the equipment during inspections or field audits for the duration of the project. Please note that upon request, AFL CS can assist with either the development of, or provision of appropriate equipment inspection forms.
