The theme of my presentation is that living in the United State, but being Mexican can be confusing and challeging

Overall theme

Julia struggles between American and Mexican cultures. Julia’s parents want her to be more like her sister, Olga, who died in a tragic accident. Olga was the perfect daughter, being aware of Mexican traditions. Julia struggles with Olga’s death, but also feels like she must be like Olga.

For example

Julia’s mom, Ophelia, wants Julia to make tortillas with her

However, Julia never made tortillas before.

Her mom feels bad because her daughter, Olga always helped her make tortillas.

Example from the book
