Womens Rights

What Are Women's Rights?

What Are Women's Rights

  • Women's rights are the entitlements claimed for women and girls worldwide

  • As we know, from the beginning, women and men weren't treated as equals

  • The women's rights movement began in the 19th century and took off from there

Relating to the American Dream

How It Relates to the AD

  • Women earlier on in history didn't have the equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work since their only duties were house work

  • Since then, many things have changed to where now, US women have the chance to take part in the American Dream because they have independence and can be successful

A Progression From the 1700s-1900s

Progression of Women's Rights

  • 1700s-1800s: Women stayed home to manage the household, including baking, sewing, and educating the children
  • Women were still seen only as a servant to their husbands

  • 1900s: Families were much larger and started to rely more on the women and children to perform free manual labor on the farm in order to maintain the family income and welfare

How Women Were Seen

How Women Were Seen

  • Till the mid 1900s, society considered women to be inferior to men
  • This caused women to not have any rights and freedom
  • Women were not allowed to be outspoken, and they were not given the same opportunities as men

The Changes that Occurred to Help Women Reach The AD

Changes

  • The19th Amendment was ratified on August 18,1920 which allowed American women to vote

  • Right to control their earnings, own property, and take custody of their children when a divorce occurred

Women's Rights Now

Women's Rights Now

  • As we can see today, women's rights have come a long way and have been given just about the amount of rights men have
  • Women can be CEOs, bosses, Doctors, etc. which is very different from their roles earlier in history
  • As women, we should be greatful for the many historic women who fought for these rights
