Tips for the 8th grade STAAR By: Lea Hilty
things to remember about volume
volume
Sometimes we all forget the simple formulas, and even if we have STAAR charts we all make mistakes.
volume of a sphere
1. Always, always, always remember to do three squared instesd or two squared.
2. don't forget to divide by two if you get the diamater not the radius.
SUBTOPIC 1
Pyramids and cones
volume of pyramids / cones
3. divide by three or multiply by 1/3 always
4. If it is a triangular pyramid divide by 2 when calculating the base
things to remember about surface area
Surface area
I always forget the formulas for this one so hopefully these tips will help.
Total surface area
5. make sure to multiply the base twice while calculating
6. When calculating base on a triangular prism divide by two
Lateral surface area
7. When calculating lsa for anything make sure you don't accidently do the formula for Tsa
8. if the problem is asking the lsa of a triangular prism do the three measurments of the triangle not the four of the square
Things to remember adout interest
I personally have alot of trouble with interest but I think these tips will help you out!
interest
simple interest
9. Always convert months into years if needed
Compound interest
