What should be expected in the future?

Could China achieve their goals in the region while the US is as influential in Asia as it is today?

At the moment U.S. strategy in Asia is to prevent a hostile hegemon to emerge and dominate the region.

If the U.S. would decide not to back down, both great powers might be headed towards a historical pattern called Thucydides’ Trap.

A prediction of possible war between two giants of this size is very extreme in tone and hard to imagine in today's geopolitical environment.

The United States has already thrown out the idea of strategic engagement with China and openly treats Beijing as its major geopolitical rival.

The consequences of the US-China rupture go far beyond economics.
