Coaching Philosophy
"Motivation is crap, motivation comes and goes. When you are driven whatever is in front of you will get destroyed" - David Goggins

- Parent / Coach Communication - I have an open door policy but please choose the appropriate times to discuss things (24 hr Cool-Down NEVER Mid-Game).
- Parent Game Conduct - No sitting behind benches, no field or track, and please keep all comments POSITIVE, please represent the MMHS Lacrosse program in a positive way.
- Be Involved - Parent Fundraising and Game Support.
- Be Realistic - Keep Expectations of Coaches realistic.
- Malcolm Gladwell - Outliers - 10,000 hours of deliberate practice. Spring Season we have the players 100-150 hours (1-1.5%)
- There will be changes to practice and game schedule.
- We are fully CIF sanctioned this year, CIF will handle playoffs.
- I have coached lacrosse for 27 years, and every team that I coached was very different.... this 2021-2022 team is no diffferent.
- We are young, everywhere.
- We have a little bit of experience, everywhere.
- We are thin at midfield, but we have athletes and potential.
- Our 2021 team will be less dodging, but more active and with more off ball movement.
- I don't yell, as I don't find it effective. I occasionally instruct loudly or yell instructions from the sidelines.
- We will keep 2021-2022 practices VERY quick (90 minute), up-tempo, focused, and instructive and players will be expected to work on game outside of practice.
- Coaches are going to push fundamentals and focus.
1. Outwork everyone - not measured by time, content & effort
2. Find your inner strength - what drives you to play
3. Never give up - don't quit when something gets hard
4. Face your obstacles - don't back down
5. Prove them wrong - let doubters motivate you
6. Stop looking for finish lines - set short term goals
7. Build yourself up - mentally and physically
8. Own your life - and your choices
9. Seek challenges - the harder the challenge the more you will grow
10. Push your limits - conditioning this year will at times push limits
Boy's Lacrosse - 2015-2019 Lesson's Learned
Fall 2021 - November
- Fall Sports - We fully support the participation in all sports throughout the year. Fall sports will have no impact on your player's team placement.
- TVLC / MVLC (Empire Lacrosse) Box Lacrosse (Tue Practices, Saturday Games) – Through December - $50, but $30-$45 counts toward fund raising goal.
- Hit the Wall !
Winter 2021-2022 - December-January
- Practices - We will practice 2-3 days a week.
- Winter Break - We will practice over Winter Break.
Murrieta Mesa HS Tryouts - Initial tryouts will be at end of January. We will likely not cut any players. That said, this is not Rec lacrosse, and players making the team does not equal guaranteed playing time. Will be as transparent as possible with playing time expectations.
Winter Sports - We will try and accommodate all players that are doing Winter Sports, but with only 2 weeks between end of Winter Sports season and 1st lacrosse games, it will be tough to "catch up" and compete for positions. No "NEW" players after Feb 1st.
- Middle School Clinics - We have to expand youth lacrosse.
- Early Fundraising - Lacrosse is expensive, we have to start early.
- Start Early - Our 2022 Spring season begins November 2021.
- Keep it Fun -

- Winter & Spring Break - Winter Break ...Spring Break
- Team Support - Teams will provide in game support for one another
- Parent Support - we need a ton of parental support.
- Practice & Participation Policy - miss practices = lose playing time.
