Welcome to Callista's Map of Wonder

Hello!

Callista Roosevelt-Jackman (0958115)

Wonder Is?

Is...

"An attitude of altered, compellingly intensified attention towards something that we immediately achknowledge as somehow important-something whose appearance engages oour imagination before our understanding but which we will probably want to understand more fully with time"- Martyn Evans

The Dancing House

The Dancing House

Frank Gehry and Vlado Milunic

Frank Gehry born 1929 in Canada and Vlado Milunic born 1941 are the two architects who collaborated on The Dancing House. The place in which it is located is the largest city within Czech Republic, Prague. In the place where this dancing house stands bombs were being dropped years before, destroying a home in World War I to look at it now you would not guess that there was such destruction in the area. This house is a refreshing start for Prague and their communities showing that nothing stays broken forever, showing that something as interquite as this house can be built on top of such grounds. The construction started in 1992 and they finished around 1996. Some of the key elements of this building are; the materials used to build this jaw dropping structure, the durability and strength of the building and the absolute beauty of the Dancing house and Fred Astaire and Ginger Roger.

Tribute to Basquiate

The street artist's identity who so skillfully created this cross between his own work and Basquiat's work is unknown, but one thing everyone knows is his street name, Banksy. Banksy is a graffiti street artist, majority of his works can be found in England. Banksy is also known to be a film director and an activist, specifically a political activist. Banksy's work was first recognized in the 1990's. His work can be seen on buildings, billboards, and walls amongst other structures all over the world and they all have combinations of graffiti, sarcasm mixed with dark yet truthful humour, most of which are intended to undermine the authority or power of the people or institution within the work.

Welcome Basquiat

Icicles

I wish there was someone to give credit to for this photo, unfortunately there was no specific source to which I could track the photo. The key elements of this photo are the focus of the camera, some of the icicles are blurred while others are crystal clear. Showing the division between the two adds to the photo itself and to the natural beauty. Looking at the book A New Map of Wonders it was said wonder is "…something that causes astonishment or profound admiration and wonder as the state of the person contemplating it".

Icicles

Beauty & The Beast

The key elements within this photo are the tattoos and the books that Belle is sitting on top of. This art is making a statement to the world we live in and to the princesses that are out there who do not believe they are princesses because of the way society has held up on the pedestal. Another key element is the fact that she is not in a gown down to her ankles and the beast is not fully an animal.

Belle

Deep Thoughts

Cyril Rolando is the artist who created this image, he is a 28-year-old French clinical psychologist who lives in France. Most of his work can be found online. The key element of this work of art is that it was digitally made, Rolando created this whole photo on his own on the computer, each little detail was electronically created. I chose this because it broke my heart.

Deep Thoughts

The artist who took this photo is unknown to me along with the location, but I know that whoever took this beautiful photo had a good eye for the art of nails, she truly appreciates a good manicure and understands that the color of your nails is truly important.

Rosey

The artist that created this work goes by the name Kat she is only of 14 years of age, and she is my sister, she sees beauty and love in an innocent yet revealing way. She has drawn other pieces within her sketchbooks, has written poems and short stories. The key elements of her piece are the jewels above the females' eyebrows showing every girl should wear her crown and have her own jewels and the rose at the base showing growth and elegance. This photo is stored within her notebook in Toronto, Ontario.
