Communication skills

What you will learn!

By Adrian Cordero

becoming a likable person, handling your relationships well, and winning others over.

Smile when you want to make a good first impression:

Smile

  • William B. Steinhardt, a New york Stockbroker.
  • Steinhardt Dedicated to smiling more, first starting with his wife, then at the doorman at his house, then smiling at the cashier at the metro station, the traders on the trading floor, and his co-workers.
  • People started to smile too.

  • When someone we just met smiles at us, we tend to like them right away.
  • Smiling intentionally can evoke positive emotions, just as positive emotions can make you smile.
  • While a smile doesnt cost a thing, you can lift your spirits and lift the spirits of others.

A person’s Name is the sweetest sound they know

Names

  • Jim Farley lost his father at the age of ten.
  • As the oldest of the family, he worked in a brickyard to pay the bills.
  • Although he never received much education, he was a 46-year-old postmaster and chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
  • Farley understood early on that people care more about their own name than any other name in the combined world.

want to be interesting? listen and be Interested in others

  • An author once attended a dinner in New York where he met a botanist.
  • The author, who had never met him before, listened to him for hours.
  • The botanist later remarked to the host what an interesting conversationalist the author was.
  • Most people are so concerned with what they want to say that they barely listen to the other person during a conversation

what is important to Them?

what is important to Them

  • it doesnt matter what you want.
  • This is what the fish want.
  • If you desire someone to do something, it is also best to think about it from their perspective - how can you get them to want to do it
  • If you are unsure of the other persons interests,

one topic that everyone is interested in is themselves.

Avoid

Avoid all Arguments

  • A man by the name of Patrick J OHaire was a salesperson at White Motor Trucks and was very argumentative.
  • However, he enjoyed a good fight.
  • When a customer said something offensive about his trucks, OHaire quickly engaged in an aggressive battle, which he usually won to his satisfaction.
  • But the problem was, despite these victories, customers werent actually buying his trucks.
  • You see, arguing with another person doesnt really make sense.

Body Language

  • Body language is the use of physical behavior, expressions, and mannerisms to communicate nonverbally, often done instinctively rather than consciously.
  • Whether youre aware of it or not, when you interact with others, youre continuously giving and receiving wordless signals.
  • All of your nonverbal behaviorsthe gestures you make, your posture, your tone of voice, how much eye contact you makesend strong messages.

Body

Facial Expressions

Expressions

  • The human face is extremely expressive, able to convey countless emotions without saying a word.

  • unlike some forms of nonverbal communication, facial expressions are universal.

  • Since the visual sense is dominant for most people, eye contact is an especially important type of nonverbal communication.

  • The way you look at someone can communicate many things, including interest, affection, or hostility.

Contact

Eye Contact

Body Movment and posture

movement

  • Consider how your perceptions of people are affected by the way they sit, walk, stand, or hold their heads.

  • The way you move and carry yourself communicates a wealth of information to the world.

Gestures

  • Gestures are woven into the fabric of our daily lives.

  • You may wave, point, beckon, or use your hands when arguing or speaking animatedly, often expressing yourself with gestures without thinking.

  • However, the meaning of some gestures can be very different across cultures.

  • While the OK sign made with the hand, for example, usually conveys a positive message in English-speaking countries, its considered offensive in countries such as Germany, Russia, and Brazil.

Conclusion

  • To make yourself likable, smile, listen and remember the names of others.
  • People crave appreciation, so shower them with it and talk about what is important to them.
  • Avoid arguments and never criticize others
