Introduction: In today's world, almost everyone has a smartphone. Many people have claimed that smartphone's are their life in a device, and helps them go on with their day-to-day life. The question I'm asking today is "How does the use of smartphones affect the daily life of an individual?"

In the article How Smartphones Support Health, Northwestern Medicine states that the use of smartphones on a daily basis can actually have plently of health benefits. Some of the benefits of using a smartphone that Northwestern mentioned are utilizing fitness tracking, medical ID profiles in case you come in contact with an emergency, and as a sleep guide.

How this connects back to my point

How Smartphones Support Health

This article shows many ways that smartphones are useful in health regards. These points connects back to my point that using smartphones on a daily basis can have affect on an individual. Using your smartphone in ways to help you stay on top of your health, sleeping schedule, and fitness can support an individual on the course of their day in case anything happens to them.

In the article The Advantages of the Smart Phone by Mark S. Anderson, the advantages of using a smartphone in regards to social life, business life, and organization with events and notes are talked about. Anderson believes that smartphones are capable of improving an individual's life due to the fact of the smooth running features on it and how it can make daily tasks feel more easily approachable.

In the study conducted by Columbia university, Teens' Social Media Use Does Not Raise Risk for Depression, authors wrote about how opposite to the contrary belief in today's society that social media causes mental health disorders such as Depression, social media does not cause depression. According to the study, those who experience depression after the use of social media have suffer mentally from before using social media to begin with. This study reports that the use of daily social media intake can actually reduce symptoms of depression for individuals.

This study shows that social media does not cause depression, even though that can come off as a common notion in today's civilization. This study provides information that correlates to my research topic question as it discusses how kids used social media as an outlet from the tragic outcomes from the COVID-19 pandemic and as a form of communication with one another, which shows how it affected their daily life.

In the article, "Excessive Smartphone Use Is Associated with Health Problems in Adolescents and Young Adults" by Yehuda Wacks and Aviv M. Weinstein, the conversation of the health effects of smartphone use is talked about and reviewed. The rest of the article continues on to reveal the reasons why people use smartphones and the outcomes that are correlated with the use of them, including proof of unusual behavior in the brain. Wacks and Weinstein report that some symptoms of excessive smartphone use can lead to staying on the couch all day and losing motivation for everyday activities. In the article, symptoms of excessive smartphone use can correlate with other addictions. This source is credible as it references many real evaluations done on people and studies related to my topic question of how the use of smartphones can have influence on an individual's daily life.

In the journal, "Smartphones, Social Media Use and Youth Mental Health" by Elia Abi-Jaoude is reviewing the effects of social media use on children to young adults by using cross sectional experiments, longitudinal studies, statistics, and ratios to conclude their research. The journal consists of a mixture of percentages, statistics, proportions, reviews, and data from other researchers and studies relating to the effects and influence on brain health, self-esteem problems, sleep hygiene, mental distress and more rising correlations regarding the use of social media and smartphones. Because Abi-Jaoude uses real life studies and provides references to all of the experiments done in her writing, it is reliable and is a credible source.

Some survey's talked about in this report are done based on how Hispanic, black, and white teens have been using social media on a daily basis. On top of that, the report also emphasizes that teens have grown to be reliant on social media and that the day-to-day use of these applications has become something teenagers can't imagine giving up. This source is credible because it references real life surveys, experiments, and studies that are done in relation to my research topic of how the daily use of social media can bring up a change in a teenager's daily life.

In Selami's journal, he researches and conducts experiments to find information about correlations of social media use and the levels of communication in a teenager's immediate circle. This makes the journal a credible and reliable source of information connecting back to my research topic question of how social media can influence an individual's day to day life.
