Evolution of the character of Guy Montag
From Apathy to the ability to feel emotion
Guy Montag
He does not give it second thought and just follows the rules and does what he is told to do. "It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed" (Bradbury 1)
Initial Apathy
His first significant change was when he met Clarisse. She takes time to consider the life questions that no one else would think or care to ask Montag. She even questions, “Are you happy?” After this he changes his actions and starts to consider things that are not just conformist.
First significant change
Montag shows his full character change when he gets revenge on the fire fighters by killing Captain Beatty and saves Faber from being burned. This shows a change in character because at the start of the book, Montag would not have helped Faber and would have just done his job mindlessly by listening to Captain Beatty.
