Sunda tiger

By Aila, Kai, and Becca

How close to extinction are they?

The Status of the Sunda Tiger

Currently, it is estimated there are less than 400 Sunda tigers left living. They are classified as critically endangered by the WWF and may go extinct soon.

Overview of the Issue

The graph to the right shows the amount of Sunda tigers throughout the years. Their population has rapidly declined since the 1980s. This problem is critical.

Overview of the Issue

Their diet

What they eat

While hunting at night Sunda tigers feast on Tapirs, Monkeys, Wild boars, Birds, Deers, and fishes.

The Reason

Why are they endangered

The Sunda tiger's habitat has been taken more and more each day. The reason they are endangered is mostly due to habitat loss, but is also due to poachers.

How is this happening

How is this

happening?

The deforestation happening in the Sunda tiger's habitat is critical. They have already lost 30 million acres of their habitat and that number is only growing bigger. The display to the right shows different levels of deforestation. Green represents the remaining forest while red represents the loss of forest since 1985.

Who are the people helping sunda tigers?

WWF is currently trying to help Sunda tigers.

Who is currently trying to help

How?

How are they helping?

WWF is helping by stopping pochers, limiting deforestation, and planning to redirect the pulp and paper industry.

What is the impact to come?

What will the impact of extinction be

If the Sunda tiger goes extinct, it will have a major impact on the Sumatra island.

How exactly will it impact Sumatra?

If Sunda tigers go extinct, a lot of things will happen. The amount of prey that the tigers usually eat will rise. These prey will then grow in number and end up needing more food, causing harm to the other species.

How will it impact Sumatra?
