Currently, it is estimated there are less than 400 Sunda tigers left living. They are classified as critically endangered by the WWF and may go extinct soon.
The graph to the right shows the amount of Sunda tigers throughout the years. Their population has rapidly declined since the 1980s. This problem is critical.
While hunting at night Sunda tigers feast on Tapirs, Monkeys, Wild boars, Birds, Deers, and fishes.
The Sunda tiger's habitat has been taken more and more each day. The reason they are endangered is mostly due to habitat loss, but is also due to poachers.
The deforestation happening in the Sunda tiger's habitat is critical. They have already lost 30 million acres of their habitat and that number is only growing bigger. The display to the right shows different levels of deforestation. Green represents the remaining forest while red represents the loss of forest since 1985.
WWF is currently trying to help Sunda tigers.
WWF is helping by stopping pochers, limiting deforestation, and planning to redirect the pulp and paper industry.
If the Sunda tiger goes extinct, it will have a major impact on the Sumatra island.
If Sunda tigers go extinct, a lot of things will happen. The amount of prey that the tigers usually eat will rise. These prey will then grow in number and end up needing more food, causing harm to the other species.
