  • Median household income was about 6500 dollars, today its around 51,370

  • Offical poverty rate has fallen from 19% in 1964 to 15% in 2012

  • After Johnson, there was Medicaid and Medicare which helped rates go down

  • In 1965 Congress passed the Elementary and secondary education act, it provided federal funding for education below college level

  • Johnson's re-election lead to the establishment of Medicare and Medicaid, to provide healthcare to senior citizens and the poor.

  • These helped the poverty rate fall to 1 in 10

  • Without having the medical coverage it caused them to go into poverty
