The English Civil War occured roughly 100 years before the French Revolution. During the 17th century, many European countries were governed by Absolute Monarchs who desired to expand their power and authority, inclduing England's monarch King Charles I. Because of Charles' abuse of power over his people and parliaments' desire to restrict the monarchy, those loyal to the king and those loyal to the parliament began to fight.
In the following century, after England recovered from its conflict and created a constituional monarchy, they lost their colonies in North America. This American Revolution sparked the spread of Enlightenment ideas and beliefs, such as equality and liberty, which influenced the French lower classes. The Third Estate, as they were called, felt overburdened and mistreated, causing them to revolt gainst their abusive monarch King Louis XVI as the Americans did against Britian.
Question: In way ways were the English Civil War and the French Revolution similar and different?
Answer: While the English Civil War and the French Revolution were both conflicts involving absolute monarchs that resulted in the formation ofconstiutional monarchies, their ultimate cuases and influences differed, as the English CIvil War was fought between parliament and King Charles, and the French Revolution was fought between the French lower classes and the upper classes, including King Louis XVI.
