Three of the qualifications to become president is being at least 30 years old, being a U.S. citizen for at least 9 years and as well as residency in the state a senator represents at time of election. He was pretty qualified.
Failures:
Sadly, many of his proposals weren't carried out due to the lack of support.
He also tried running the goverment as if it was a political bureaucracy, which was one of the reason he was not voted for a second term.
Successes:
Although, he accomplished more as secretary of state, there was still some great ideas of his brought to the country.
He was known to be a proponent of large scale federal involvment in economic development.
He called for expedentures on canals and roadways to link the United States.
He also tried to propose goverment support for scientific reasearch.
According to the many things I've learned about him, he seems like a decent person. However, I don't think I would vote for him. Some of the things he's tried to do I think are good for the country, but he was not able to pursue a lot of those things. I believe being a secretary of state suited him much more than being a president. He tried to do a lot of things for the country, but he didn't have enough support to carry out many of those things. He was a good person, but I believe he did not suit being president.
