- If a parent has been deprived of parental rights or if his or her child lives in a social welfare institution, the parent does not have the right to parental leave.

Who is entitled to parental benefit?
- parent rising a child
- an adoptive parent
- a guardian of the child
- parent of a foster family who is permanent resident of Estonia
- the father of the child - the child has reached the age of 70 days
If the parent is working
All parents who are working during maternity leave they are entitled to parental benefit at a minimum rate, usually more
How to calculate parental benefit?
Calculation of parental benefit
- nine full calendar months preceding the child's birth are deducted
- parental benefit is calculated on the basis of the income for the 12 calendar months preceding the 9 months
- minimum amount of the parental benefit is 540EURO's
