Innovations and Inventions of the 1920s

The Washing

  • The innovation of the washing machine in the 1920s, the washing machines became more advanced and common in an average house. This made life easier for the women and children as it washed the clothes for them instead of them having to hand wash the clothes.

The Vacuum

The innovation of the vacuum in the mid-1920s, the vacuum cleaner became more efficient and more successful in an average house. For instance, in 1920 Air-way Sanitizor of Toledo, Ohio introduced the first vacuum cleaner with a disposable bag.

The Radio

- Radio broadcasting began in 1920 with the historic broadcast of KDKA. Though few people actually heard the voices and music which were produced because of the poor signal of radio receivers at that time.

Frozen food

- Many people developed innovative food-freezing techniques. The main peole behing these techniques were, Enoch Piper, William Davis, and Daniel E. Somes. However, Clarence Birdseye is credited with inventing the quick freezing method in 1924, which produces the type of frozen foods that we know today.

- The history of the Refrigerator began in the 1920. In the 1920s and '30s, consumers were first introduced to freezers later on electric refrigerators with ice cube compartments came on the market. These basic freezers were now be purchased for about half their origional selling prices in the 1920s.
