Chapters I am going to focus on: 45-46
After the camp fell asleep Stanley and Zero went out to dig holes but the warden saw them. Later on, Mr. Sir and Mr. Pendanski got there as well. They all saw yellow-spotted lizards crawling on Zero and on the suitcase that he was holding. Mr.Pendanski shined his flashlight onto Stanley and saw him standing on a lizard nest. The warden was pleased thinking the lizards would bite the boys and there will at least be a body to give to the woman from the A.G.’s office. The Warden, Mr. Sir and Mr. Pendanski discussed what to tell the woman and the A.G. while Stanley and Zero had no clue who "the women" or "the A.G" was. Putting everything to the side, Stanley started thinking about the time he and his mother rolled down a hill covered with snow. The Warden also announced that kids won't have to dig holes anymore because she found the treasure she had been looking for since she was a little girl. The chapter ended when Mr.Sir told Stanley that his lawyer came to the camp yesterday to pick him up but Stanley could not make sense of it because he believed that his family cannot afford a lawyer.
Stanley and Zero being covered in yellow-spotted lizards is the biggest climax of this chapter. This part matters the most because they both had a hard time standing still whereas the warden, Mr.sir and Mr.Pendanski were being heartless, planning on what to tell people after Stanley and Zero die. Another important part in this chapter would be how contented the warden felt to see the suitcase with Zero.
The chapters were clearly written, I could understand everything that happened in these chapters. Yes, the author opened up the issue the way I expected. He explained how Stanley and Zero were in a problem because of yellow-spotted lizards very well which made it really easy to understand the concept. This chapter taught me what being "patient" meant. Stanley and Zero were in a really scary situation and if any of us were in that situation, we would freak out but they both managed to stand still and hide their emotions, hoping that the lizards will leave their body, throughout the chapter. I also learned about "positivity'" when Stanley forgot about everything that was happening to him and started getting happy, thinking about the time he and his mother went down the hill.
"His brain took him back to a time when he was very little, all bundled up in a snowsuit. He and his mother were walking, hand in hand, mitten in mitten, when they both slipped on some ice and fell and rolled down a snow-covered hillside. They ended up at the bottom of the hill. He remembered he almost cried, but instead he laughed. His mother laughed, too. He could feel the same light-headed feeling he felt then, dizzy from rolling down the hill. He felt the sharp coldness of the snow against his ear. He could see flecks of snow on his mother's bright and cheery face. This was where he wanted to be when he died." was my favourite paragraph from the chapter. It was an emotional part because he thought he was going to die at the camp so he wanted to remember the most memorable time of his life that he spent with his mother. I would highly recommend this book to other students because it shows how our life depends on our fate and destiny rather than luck. The book gives a lot of importance to friendship as well. People that have the ability to empathize and understand the plots will enjoy this book a lot.
