Mysore had become a strong state under Haider Ali.Tipu sultan(haider ali s son) also controlled the trade. He also stopped local merchants from trading with with Britishers. He employed rench to his army to modernize . Britishers tried to suppress the power of Mysore.this led to four wars that were fought between Britishers and Mysore this was known as anglo mysore wars.
Tipu was killed in the war at Sringapatnam.
The EEIC started facing problems from the Marathas who were aiming to rule over India through
Delhi which was the seat of power. So, there many wars fought between the british and marthas called the Anglo-Mysore wars. The third Anglo – Maratha war,marathas were defeated and
Britishers got complete control over territories, south of the Vindhyas.
The final wave of annexations occurred under Lord Dalhousie who introduced the Doctrine of Lapse. The doctrine declared that if an Indian ruler died without a male heir his kingdom would
lapse. Kingdoms which were annexed are: Satara (1848), Sambalpur (1850), and Jhansi (1854) .Finally, in , the EEIC also took over Awadh(1856).
